A Salem grand jury Friday indicted a 32-year-old man on a charge of rape.
Earl Anthony Helaire of Salem was charged Aug. 20, according to Salem Commonwealth's Attorney Fred King. Helaire was in the Roanoke County-Salem Jail Friday. Bond was set at $10,000.
On Aug. 20, a 30-year-old woman said a man in her apartment complex visited, said he was moving and gave her a set of dishes, King said. About 10 p.m., the man returned and asked to borrow a knife. The woman gave him the knife, and he placed his hand over her mouth. He forced her at knifepoint into her bedroom and raped her, King said.
