BLANKENSHIP, Rev. Arby Jackson, 70, of Route 2, Narrows, died Thursday, September 19, 1996, at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on Wolf Creek Mountain on February 13, 1926, and was the son of the late Edward and Sallie Belle King Blankenship. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Hare Blankenship; three brothers, Clarence, Marvin and Clifton (``Rub"") Blankenship; a sister, Macie Williams, and two grandsons, Joseph and Aaron Blankenship. He was the pastor of the Church of the Lord Jesus on Blankenship Mountain, near Narrows, for 30 years. He is survived by three sons, Larry A. Blankenship and the Rev. Kenneth W. Blankenship of Narrows and Harold Blankenship of Elliston; two daughters, Doris E. Lindsey of Pearisburg and Loretta M. Martin of Pembroke; a brother, Eugene Blankenship of Roanoke; four sisters, Inez Smith, Roxie Fleeman, Verena Vaughn and Irene Hale of Narrows; 13 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 1996, at the Church of the Lord Jesus on Blankenship Mountain, near Narrows, with the Rev. Clenard Thornsberry, the Rev. Charles Croy and the Rev. Raymond White officiating. Concluding services will be held in the Heavenly View Cemetery near his home. The family will gather with their friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

BOOTHE, Posey Marvin, 75, of Boones Mill died Friday September 20, 1996 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his f ather and mother, Jadie and Bessie Boothe, two brothers, Luster Boothe and Claude Boothe. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Lloyd Boothe, Boones Mill; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Denise Boothe, Boones Mill; two granddaughters, Leah and Louisha, Boones Mill; three brothers, Luther Boothe, Roanoke, Archie Boothe, Ohio, Billy Boothe, Goodview; seven sisters, Mary Maxey, Rocky Mount, Dorothy Crowder, Nance, Tiny Durham, Boones Mill, Jacqueline Montgomery, Boones Mill, Gracie Peters, Wirtz, Shirley Wood, Roanoke, Barbara Akers, Vinton. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Flora Funeral Chapel with Reverend James H. Steele officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Service with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. and other times at the residence of David and Gracie Peters. BULLINGTON, Martha Moseley, of 825 Main Street, South Boston, died Thursday, September 19, 1996, at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born February 14, 1906, in Faunsdale, Ala., the daughter of Dr. Daniel C. Moseley and Martha Steudivich Webb Mosel ey. She was the widow of Norwood W. Bullington. She was preceded in death by two sons, N. W. (``Bill"") Bullington Jr. and A. J. (``Jack"") Bullington; three sisters, Vivian M. Lawson, Betsy M. Tucker and Elizabeth Moseley; one brother, William W. Moseley; nine grandchildren; great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, an early member of the DAR, Berryman Green Chapter, and a former member of the Cotillion Club. She had been in declining health for several years. CLARK, Grace Chase, 88, of Oakland Drive, Pulaski, died Friday, September 20, 1996 in the Richfield Nursing Center, Salem, Va. She was born on January 13, 1908 in Clintwood, Va. and was the daughter of the late Emory Boyd Chase and Annie Laurie Chase. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Aliceon Davison Clark. Mrs. Clark was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski, the Count Pulaski Chapter of the DAR, and the Round Dozen Club. Surviving are one daughter, Aliceon Clark Gardner, Roanoke; three grandchildren, Aliceon Gardner Anderson, Charlotte, N.C., Mary Margaret Gardner, Charlotte, N.C., John Everette Gardner III, Roanoke, Va.; one sister, Edith Chase Howard, Pikeville, Ky. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Sunday from the Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, Va. with the Rev. Norman Wilhoit officiating. COLEMAN, Rachael Jean Hurst, (``Jean''), 74, of Annaburg Manor, Manassas, formerly of Roanoke, loving mother to three daughters, Charlotte C. Strano of Richmond, Beverley J. Coleman of Roanoke, and Frances C. LoBello of Centreville; two sons, Rodney I. Coleman of Smith Mountain Lake, and Marshall G. Coleman of Roanoke; two sons-in-law, Peter E. LoBello and Frank A. Strano; loving grandmother to Shannon LoBello, Monty Coleman, Ricky King, Mark Coleman, Paul Brown, and Clay Brown, passed away on Monday, September 16, 1996. Charlotte and Frances were with her at the time of her death. Mrs. Coleman is also survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Allen and Ola Hurst of Raleigh, N.C., and Paul Hurst of Vinton; as well as seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and dear family friends. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Samuel I. Coleman of Franklin County; her parents, James and Gladys Scaggs Hurst of Montgomery County; and her maternal grandparents, Albert and Effie Wells Scaggs, who managed the old post office in Nace. Born in Nace on November 21, 1921, Mrs. Coleman attended Troutville High School. After several years employment with General Electric in Salem and various sales positions, she earned two diplomas certifying her as a Registered Apartment Manager. In 1984, she retired as resident manager of the Regency Woods Condominiums in Richmond. She held memberships in the Peninsula Women's Rental Association, American Business Women's Association and American Association of Retired Persons. After retire ment, Mrs. Coleman wrote an autobiography of her life and presented a copy to each of her children in 1991. A memorial service will be held at Valley Community Church at 2 p.m. today, September 21, 1996. The Rev. Maurita Wiggins will officiate. The church is located at 5000 Carriage Drive, S.W., Roanoke, Va. (behind Oak Grove Plaza). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Coleman's name to Annaburg Manor or the Alzheimer's Association.

HALE, Earl Glen, 73, of Ferrum, died Thursday, September 19, 1996, at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Born on April 7, 1923, he was the son of the late Flint C. and Florence Crook Hale. Surviving are one sister, Cora Peters of Ferrum; one brother, Posie Hale of Ferrum, and several nieces and nephews. IZQUIERDO, Martha Olganeida, (""Olga""), 55, of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 1996. She was the loving mother to four daughters, Deborah Reynolds, San Clemente, Calif., Belinda Chandler, Raeford, N.C.; Ami Anne Gonzalez-Watkins, Blacksburg, and Cynthia Gonzalez, Hampton; one son, Jeffrey Gonzalez, Blacksburg. She is survived by eight grandchildren; three brothers; two sisters; as well as several nieces and nephews; three sons-in-law; and dear family friends. Also surviving are her mother, Gladys Almodovar and father, Louis Izquierdo, both of Puerto Rico. JONES, Carolyn P., 77, of Wytheville, died Thursday, September 19, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hopsital. She was one of Wytheville's retired teachers who taught for 33 years and served in the community, churches, civic and social organizations. So many lives were touched with understanding, love and help. She served on the Board of Directors for Wytheville Housing Authority and Wytheville Community Hospital, a member of the Wytheville Woman's Club, and was selected as Woman of the year; she was also third Vice-President. She attended A and T College, North Carolina Central College, undergraduate and graduate work at Virginia State College and Ohio State University. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jacob Jones and she is survived by two sisters, Lula Phelps Saunders, Rocky Mount, Marie Phelps Peters, Huntington, W. Va. Several nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, brother-in-laws, cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and friends also survive. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Franklin Street Methodist Church conducted by Pastor Angela Hardy, The Rev. Thomas Braxton and The Rev. Kenneth Johnson with the burial in the Oakwood Memorial Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at one hour before service time. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home Monday afternoon September 23, 1996 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. There will be no night visitation at the funeral home. Those that wish to do so may make memorials to the Franklin Street United Methodist Church. The Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

KLING, Mildred C., 89, of Roanoke, died Thursday, September 19, 1996. in a Salem hospital. She was a retired Roanoke City School teacher and guidance counselor with 40 years of service at Stonewall Jackson Jr. High School. Miss Kling was a loyal and active member of Christ Lutheran Church, and a Charter Member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. She was also active in the Roanoke City Schools Retired Teachers Association. Surviving are her sister, Lois K. Herring, Roanoke; brothers, David F. Kling and wife, Marge, Belpre, Ohio, Wiley Kling, Roanoke; nieces and nephews, John Kling and wife Doris, Elgin, S.C., Richard Herring and wife, Jan of Bent Mtn., David F. Kling Jr. and wife, Mickey, Lancaster, Ohio, Cindy Sagle and husband, Bob of Durango, Col., Stephen Kling, Roanoke, Wiley B. Kling Jr. and wife, Bonnie, Hot Springs; various great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be at Christ Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Monday, September 23, 1996. The Rev. SIMPSON, Paul Chambers, Jr. 58, of Dublin, passed away Thursday, September 19, 1996 at his residence. Born on April 17, 1938, he was the son of Paul Chambers Simpson Sr. and Cecil Roop Simpson of Pulaski. He was formerly employed as a diesel mechanic with Marshall Concrete Products, and was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy ``Dot"" Simpson. Surviving is two daughters, Donna Simpson Thomas of Dublin and Susan Simpson Rakes of Pulaski; two sons, David Lee Hopkins of Roanoke and Kenneth Wayne Hopkins of Radford; 11 grandchildren, Carrie, David and Jesse Hopkins, Shelley and Jay Summers, Josh Thomas, Lee Ann, April, Billie Jo and Trent Bryson, and Jamie Dellinger; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Bobby Lee Simpson of Dublin; four sisters, Mary Boyd of New Market, Jenny Simpson of Christiansburg, Dorothy Thornton of Radford and Judy Buckner of Dublin. SMITH, Brenda, (``Dianne""), of Richmond, died Thursday, September 19, 1996. She is survived by two brothers, Haymon W. Smith Jr. and Bernard L. Smith; also, devoted friends, Donna S. Patton and family, along with her loving church family. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at River Road Church, Baptist, 8000 River Road, Richmond. SPRAKER, Frank Weidel, 78, of Grundy, passed away Thursday, September 19, 1996, following a lengthy illness. Born at Cripple Creek, he was a son of the late Emmett B. and Mary Smith Spraker. He has been a resident of Grundy since the summer of 1952. He was a graduate of Wytheville High School, Milligan College and received his Master's Degree from the University of Tennessee. He was an active member of Grundy United Methodist Church, and taught the Adult Sunday School Class for more than 20 years, served on the Administrative Council, the Finance Committee and took care of the church lawn. He was active in the Kiwanis Club for many years, serving as President of the Grundy Kiwanis Club, Lieutenant Governor of Capital District and was Secretary of the Grundy Kiwanis Club 35 years. Frank was instrumental in establishing the Little League Program in Buchanan County. He served in the United States Army during World War II, having served as a Medic in North Africa and Italy. He was a retired employee of the Buchanan County School System, having served as Football Coach, Athletic Director of Grundy Senior High School. In 1994, he was inducted into the Wythe County Athletic Hall of Fame, and in October of this year he was to have been inducted into Mi lligan College Athletics Hall of Fame. He played football at Wytheville High School and Milligan College. Mr. Spraker is survived by his wife, Mrs. Virginia Boatwright Spraker, Grundy; one daughter, Cynthia Spraker Musick, Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, Robert Gregory Spraker, Woodbridge, Frank Weindel Spraker Jr., Grundy; one sister, Mary Ella Spraker Corvin, Wytheville; one brother, Paul Smith Spraker, Richmond; three grandchildren, Grey and Kim Spraker, Lindsay Musick. He was preceded in death by seven brothers. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 21, 1996 at 1 p.m. at the Grundy United Methodist Church, Grundy with the Rev. Jay Ferguson officiating with burial to follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery, Norton. Friends may call at Grundy United Methodist Church at 12 noon Saturday. Full Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by member of John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion and Childs Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veteran of Foreign Wars. UTT, Hermon John, 87, of Hillsville, died Friday, September 20, 1996, in Northern Hospital of Surry County. Born on February 18, 1909, in Carroll County, he was a son of the late Thomas Luther and Harriett Turner Utt. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Utt of the home; a son, Tommy Utt of Hillsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Keith McNeer of Richmon d; two grandsons, Kevin McNeer and John Utt, and a stepgranddaughter, Tina Lawson. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 1996, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville, with the Rev. Layne Pennington officiating.
