Roanoke and Botetourt counties were among five localities added Friday to the list of those eligible for public assistance to pay for damage caused by Hurricane Fran.
Federal and state officials also agreed to extend disaster aid to Greene, Nottoway and Shenandoah counties.
The public assistance program provides federal funds for 75 percent of approved costs for debris removal, storm-related emergency services and repairing or replacing damaged public facilities such as roads, bridges and utilities.
This week's additions bring the number of localities eligible for assistance to 10 cities and 35 counties. Other localities in the region already on the list include Buena Vista, Lexington, Bedford and Bedford County.
