Aliff-Griffith

Debby Griffith and Odell Aliff were united in marriage on Saturday, September 21, 1996 at Max Creek Baptist Church in Hiwassee with the Reverend Robert Marshall and Pastor Mike Coleman officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Richard & Joan G. O'Dell of Christiansburg & the late Loranzo L. ``Red'' Griffith, Sr.

The groom is the son of Mrs. Edith Aliff of Salem and the late Leonard Aliff.|

The bride was escorted by her nephew, Michael W. Coleman, II and given in marriage by her family, in memory of her father.

Terri Coleman served her sister as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mitzi Brickey and Terri Gearheart. The flower girl was Amanda Griffith.

Lee P. Hammond, Jr., served his friend as best man. Groomsmen were Joshua Coleman and Justin Griffith. J. Tyler Griffith and Allen M. Aliff were the ringbearers.

The couple will reside in Christiansburg.

Bendel-Miller

Michelle Evelyn Miller and Timothy John Bendel were married September 7, 1996, in VA Tech War Memorial Chapel. Rev. Steve Darr officiated. The reception was held at Red Lion Inn in Blacksburg.

Janice Miller, the mother of the bride, served as matron of honor. Nicole Knox and Lisa Schilling, friends of the bride, were bridesmaids.

James J. Bendel, the father of the groom, served as best man. The groom's brothers, James S. Bendel and Thomas R. Bendel, were the ushers.

Readings were given by Greg Dardick and Lori Warren.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Miller, Jr., of Seymour, TN. She is a graduate of Virginia Tech and is employed by Computer Science Corp. in Falls Church, VA.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James J. Bendel of Roanoke, VA. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech and is employed by Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp (FreddieMac) in McLean, VA.

The newlyweds will live in Chantilly, VA, after the wedding trip to Disneyworld.

Boothe-Griffith

Aimee Raye Griffith and Richard Matthew Boothe were married June 29, 1996, at Cave Spring United Methodist Church with Rev. Wm. Logan officiating. The reception was held at the Marriott.

The bride is the daughter of David and Yvonne Griffith of Marietta, Ga. Aimee is a graduate of Pope High School, Marietta, Ga., and Virginia Tech. She is currently employed by Virginia Tech.

The groom is the son of Richard and Polli Boothe and David and Mollie Arthur. Matt is a graduate of Cave Spring High School and Va Tech and is currently an EE graduate student at VA Tech.

Maid of honor was Christi Hunt. Bridespersons were Kelli Hunt, Dawn Melson and Kevin Lewis, friends of the bride.

Best man was Richard Boothe, father of the groom. Groomspersons were David Arthur, stepfather of the groom, Todd Fariss and Tahnee Causey, friends of the groom. Junior groomsmen were Davey and Robbie Arthur, brothers of the groom.

Following a honeymoon cruise to the Southern Caribbean, Matt and Aimee are residing in Blacksburg, along with their two adorable pug puppies born on their wedding day.

Brown-Ferguson

Debra Lynn Ferguson and Michael Collins Brown were married September 21, 1996 in St. John's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Thomas P. O'Dell was the officiating clergyman. The reception was held at The Shenandoah Club.

Julie Ann Ferguson, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Velvet Jeanae Hall, Kelli Lien Lloyd and Deborah Lee Bordeau, friends of the bride; and Heather Southerland King, cousin of the bride. Alison Ann Brown and Kristin Elise Brown, cousins of the groom, were the flowergirls.

Gregg Venable Brown, brother of the groom, served as best man. The groomsmen were Charles Ray Cox, David Dawson Pedigo, Jr., Waller Stephen Perrow and David Hildreth Brown, friends of the groom; Jock Rogers Wheeler, step-brother of the groom; and David Byron Ferguson, brother of the bride. Steven Pahl Pappas, friend of the bride, was the ringbearer.

The bride is a daughter of Clifton David and Barbara King Ferguson of Smith Mountain Lake. The bridegroom is the son of the late E. Collins Brown and Virginia Venable Waddell. He is the stepson of Mrs. Sue Cosby Schott .

The newlyweds will reside at Smith Mountain Lake, Va., after a deep sea fishing honeymoon.

Bumgarner-Camper

Laura Ellen Camper and Richard Carl Bumgarner were united in marriage at a half after seven o'clock on Saturday, September 21, 1996 at Second Presbyterian Church, Roanoke, Virginia with Dr. Taylor Todd officiating. The reception was held in the Grand Ballroom at the Roanoke Airport Marriott.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kerry Carlin Camper of Troutville, Virginia. She is the granddaughter of Ruby T. Campbell and the late Floyd W. Campbell and the late Ruth A. and G.E.T. Camper, Jr., all of Troutville, Virginia.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bruce Bumgarner of Roanoke. He is the grandson of the late Paul and Agnes Lenderman of North Wilksboro, North Carolina and the late Linnie and Mary Lee Bumgarner of Millers Creek, North Carolina.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Mrs. Rayne Foster Selleh of Greenbelt, Maryland, friend of the bride, served as matron of honor. Miss Candice Ivette Hubbard of Mechanicsville, Virginia, friend of the bride, served as a bridesmaid and vocalist. The additional bridesmaids were Miss Karen Kelly Bumgarner of Roanoke, sister of the groom; Miss Lucia Elaine Eckstein of Roanoke, friend of the bride; and Mrs. Lee Ann Walthall of Troutville, Virginia, friend of the bride. The guest book and program attendants were Mrs. Wanda Stevens of Troutville, Virginia, aunt of the bride, and Ms. Joan Williams of Roanoke, friend of the bride and groom.

Mr. Paul James Higgins of Roanoke, friend of the groom, served as the best man. The groomsmen were Mr. Christopher Jesse Kuelling of Denver, Colorado; Mr. Marc Elliot Taubman of Roanoke; Mr. Bruce Allen Anderton of Roanoke; and Mr. Lloyd Grosse (Chip) Lazarus, Jr. of Roanoke, all friends of the groom. The ring bearer was Master Joshua Melvin Richardson of Roanoke, friend of the bride. The candlelighter was Mr. Charles Walker Stevens of Troutville, cousin of the bride.

The bride is a graduate of James River High School and Ferrum College. She is employed by the Ohio Auto/Diesel Technical College of Cleveland, Ohio, as an Admissions Representative as well as being the Owner/President of Pageants First, Inc. The groom is a graduate of North Cross School and attended Roanoke College and the University of South Carolina at Coastal Carolina. He is an Officer and Stockholder of Fleetmaster Express, Inc. of Roanoke, Virginia.

After a honeymoon trip to Grand Cayman Island, the couple will reside in Roanoke, Virginia.

Cheatwood-Thomas

Nita Shufflebarger Thomas and Alfred William Cheatwood, Jr,. were married on September 21, 1996, at Northview United Methodist Church. Dr. Carl E. Savage officiated. A reception was held at the Marriott Hotel following the ceremony. The couple will reside in Roanoke.

Clements-Jones

Stephanie Ann Jones and Mark Daniel Clements were married Saturday, August 3, at First Christian Church in Roanoke. Reverend Jim Rivers performed the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Stephan and Louise Jones of Moneta. She is the granddaughter of Melvin Turner of Moneta and the late Sallie Turner and of the late William and Vaughnie Jones.

The bridegroom is the son of Billy and Janet Clements of Wirtz. He is the grandson of William and Opal Clements of Wirtz, and Lillian and Berlon Naff of Boones Mill. He is the great-grandson of Marie Naff of Boones Mill.

A program of music was provided by Dee Rivers.

The bride was given in marriage by her parents.

Honor attendant was Tracey Turner, cousin of the bride, of Port Orange, FL. Bridesmaids were Bonnie Collins, sister of the bride, of Tequesta, FL; Lisa Jones, sister of the bride, of Moneta; Michelle Turner, cousin of the bride, of Moneta; and Jennifer Marks of Santa Fe, NM.

Best Man was Billy Clements, father of the groom. Groomsmen were Tony Clements, brother of the groom, of Wirtz; Robert Clements, brother of the groom, of Wirtz; Chris Hutton of Moneta; and Bobby Pacini of Port Orange, FL.

Flower girls were Anna and Emily Collins, nieces of the bride, of Tequesta, FL.

The guest book was attended by Dawn Fitzgerald of Boones Mill.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the fellowship hall of the church.

After a trip to Chesapeake, the couple will reside in Roanoke.

The bride attends Roanoke College and is majoring in Criminal Justice. She is employed at the United States Attorney's Office.

The bridegroom is a graduate of Virginia Western Community College with an A.S. in Engineering and is employed by Orvis.

Compton-McGahee

Dawn Stephanie McGahee and Aaron Basil Compton were married on September 21, 1996, in Lee Road United Methodist Church. Rev. Kenneth Roth, Dr. William Benfield and Rev. David Surrett officiated. The reception was held at the church social hall.

Brenda Compton Leach, friend of the bride and sister of the groom, was the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Stacey M. Wise and Nancy McGahee, sisters of the bride; Susan Hubbard and Debra Gaddy, friends of the bride; Sarah Beth Compton, niece of the g room; and Ashley McGahee, cousin of the bride.

The groom's father, Reynard Ray Compton, was the best man. The ushers were Bart Compton and Brian Compton, brothers of the groom; James Swiger, Scott Maas and Mike Brown, friends of the groom; and Matthew McGahee, cousin of the bride.

The bride's gown was of light Italian satin with hand-beaded lace and sequins and pearls cascading over the princess lines and chapel train. Veil of illusion was caught by a double crown of tulle petals which was worn by her mother and sister. The bride carried a bouquet of white roses and dendrobium orchids.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David S. McGahee, Jr., of Taylors, SC. She is a graduate of Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, NC, and attended Pfeiffer College where she was enrolled in the Masters program in Christian education. She is employed by First United Methodist Church in Pulaski, VA.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Reynard Ray Compton of Radford, VA, and is a graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN. He is employed by Reynolds Architects Incorporated.

The newlyweds will live in Christiansburg, VA, after the wedding trip to the coast of South Carolina.

Dooley-Feury

Shelby Lynn Feury and Jeffrey Wayne Dooley were united in marriage on Saturday, September 21, 1996, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Salem with the Rev. Billy White officiating. The reception was held at the Sheraton Inn Airport.

The bride, escorted to the altar by her father and given in marriage by her parents, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie L. Feury of Salem. She is the granddaughter of Billy and Anna Feury of Salem and the late Cleatis and Eugenia Sisson of Salem. She is also the great-granddaughter of the late Alva Hale of Salem. She is a graduate of Glenvar High School and Virginia Western Community College.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde W. Dooley of Salem. He is the grandson of Barbara Dooley of Salem and the late Hughston Dooley and the late Thelma and Luther Moore. He is a graduate of Salem High School and Rice Aviation Aeronautical School and is employed by Raytheon Corporation in Lusby, Maryland.

Kristi Bain of Ventura, California served as maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Amy Gabris of Vinton, Wendy Jenkins of Roanoke and Lora Kennedy of Roanoke, all friends of the bride. Krislyn Paige Walterson of Roanoke served as flowergirl.

The father of the groom, Clyde W. Dooley, served as best man. Groomsmen were Brian Dooley, brother of the groom, Richard Alexander of Salem, Mike Duncan of Salem and Mike Lineberry of Roanoke, all friends of the groom. Phillip Walterson of Roanoke served as ringbearer and Zachery Fisher of Roanoke served as trainbearer.

The guest book was attended by Brandi Feury of Roanoke.

The wedding music was provided by Peggy Campbell and the soloist was Todd Smith, friend of the bride.

The wedding was directed by the bride's aunt, Wanda Henry of Roanoke.

The newlyweds would like to thank their families and friends who made their special day possible.

The couple will reside in Lusby, Maryland after a honeymoon cruise to the Southern Caribbean.

Dowe-Brown

Renee Brown and Raymond Dowe were married on September 7, 1996, in First Baptist Church of Elliston. The Rev. David Parker was the officiating pastor. The reception was held at Sheraton Inn.

Josie Holland, sister of the bride, was the matron of honor. Friends of the bride Lisa Davis, Julia Gee, and Derita Ratcliffe were bridesmaids. Devin and Dana Holland, nieces of the bride, were flowergirls.

Howard and Timothy Dowe, father and brother of the groom, were best men. Ushers were Cornell Dowe, uncle of the groom; Michael Dowe, uncle of the groom; and Joseph Dowe, cousin of the groom. Ryan Dowe, son of the groom, was the ringbearer.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. Wesley Brown of North Carolina and Ms. Von Brown of Texas. She received her Master's from Virginia Tech, and is employed by Blue Ridge Community Services.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dowe of Shawsville. He is self-employed at Howard's Car Care.

The newlyweds will live in Roanoke after the wedding trip to New Orleans.

Dresser-McMurray

Penny Anne McMurray and Kevin John Dresser were married on July 6, 1996 in an outdoor ceremony at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julian McMurray of Newport, Virginia. The Rev. Mike Rife of Grundy, VA officiated. A reception followed on the lawn.

Penny is a graduate of Dobyns Bennett High School in Kingsport, Tennessee and Radford University School of Nursing.

Kevin is the son of Mr. Harold ""Skip"" Dresser of Iowa City, Iowa, and Mrs. Laura Mattoon of Humboldt, Iowa. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa at Iowa City and the former coach of the state champion Grundy High School wrestling team. Kevin and Penny presently reside in Iowa.

Gladden-Boothe

Daphne M. Boothe and Ervin E. Gladden were united in marriage on September 21, 1996 at six in the evening at West Salem Baptist Church. Reverend Robert Goldsmith and Reverend Michael Slaughter officiated. The bride's parents gave the reception immediately following the ceremony at Hidden Valley Country Club. The bride is the daughter of Jack and Dot Boothe of Salem, Va. She is the granddaughter of Warren and Opal Boothe and the late Zettie and Gradin Martin of Salem, Va. The groom is the son of the late Irvin a nd Kathleen Gladden of Salem, Va. He is the grandson of Mary Morris of Christiansburg, Va., and the late Paul Morris, and the late James and Texas Anna Gladden.

The bride was escorted by her father and supported in marriage by her parents. Kelley Gladden, the groom's daughter, was maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Jeri Lane, Mary Ann Salles, Lisa Smith and Evelyn Yates. All are from the Salem/Roanoke area. Gary Duncan, friend of the groom, served as best man. The groomsmen were Paul Gladden of Tracy, Calif., Robert Gladden of St.Stephens Church, Va., Tommy Gladden of Salem, Va., and Robert Twine of Chesapeake, Va. Goode-Hutton United in Holy Matrimony

The most sacred and holy matrimony service was held at Sweet Union Baptist Church, Roanoke, for Lauren Kimberley Hutton and William Allen Goode, Jr. on Saturday, August 24, 1996, 1:00 p.m. Dr. Edward T. Burton officiated the double ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Marva Wright Hutton, Roanoke, and Mr. Robert Lloyd Hutton, New York, and the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Otha and Annie Wright, Sr., Roanoke, and Mr. and Mrs. Alphonso and Mae Quintyne, New York.

The groom is the son of Mrs. Frances Goode, Danville, VA, and Mr. and Mrs. William and Ulean Torain, Chatham, VA.

The bride wore a beautiful white barque satin beaded gown with a chapel length train. She carried a lovely bouquet of white roses, stephanotis, gardenias and baby's breath.

Jennifer Morrison, friend of bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Tivoli Harris, college friend of bride; Teresa Torain, cousin of groom; Joyce Washington, college friend of bride; and Sarah Wilkerson, friend of bride.

Kenneth Goode served his brother as best man. Groomsmen were Wayne Fitzgerald, uncle of groom; Jeffrey Hubbard, friend of groom; Jason Lloyd Hutton, brother of bride; and Henry Motley, cousin of groom.

Serving as ushers were Marc Wainwright, friend of groom, and Adrian Michael Wright, cousin of bride. Greeters were Whitney Wright, cousin of bride, and Carrie Layman, friend of bride.

Lakeeya Goode, niece of groom, was the beautiful flower girl. Brenton Lloyd Hutton, handsome little nephew of the bride, served as ring bearer, carrying the Holy Bible accented with flowers.

Beautiful music was provided by Maxine N. Hunt, organist; Anita D Wilson, pianist; Narcissus Bishop, vocalist, and Ulean Goode, vocalist, sister of groom.

Guest Book Attendant was LaShonya Hutton, sister-in-law of bride. Little Miss Aisha Adams, friend of bride, served as a hostess and rendered the inspirational prayer at the reception. Cornell Fitzgerald, aunt of groom, also served as a hostess.

The wedding and reception was captured on video by Michael Wright, uncle of bride.

Consultants and Coordinators for this astonishing wedding were Norman C. and Angeline L. Jones.

Hurley-Haley

Joan Susan Haley and Mark Harold Hurley were married Saturday, August 31, 1996, at St. John's Episcopal Church. The Reverend Thomas P. O'Dell officiated the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Michael Haley of Mt. Dora, Fla. She is the granddaughter of Helen Miner Haley of Concord, N. H. The groom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Walter Hurley of Basking Ridge, N. J.

Sarah Haley Roberts of Raleigh N. C., sister of the bride, was matron of honor. The bridesmaids were Heather Davis Coiro of Creamridge, N. J.; Jean Jadhon Curry of Roanoke; Pauline Therese Donato of Richmond, Va.; Aideen Elizabeth McCaul of Radnor, Pa.; Tara Morgan Skewes of Radford, Va.; and Elizabeth Martin Thomasson of Roanoke. Grace Catherine Hurley of Greenbrook, N. J., niece of the groom, was the flower girl.

Gary Andrew Urda of East Northport, N. Y., was the best man. Groomsmen were Jeffry Almont Bell of Chenango Forks, N. Y.; Anthony Michael Chrusniak of Gilbertsville, Pa.; Andrew Jon Datesman of Fairfax, Va.; Robert Joseph Hofmann of Scituate, Mass.; James Walter Hurley of Greenbrook, N. J., and John William Hurley of Delray Beach, Fla., brothers of the groom; Robert Watson Smith of Roanoke; and Carl Alan Tutino of Bellemeade, N. J. John David Haley II of Radford, Va., nephew of the bride, and Patrick William Hurley of Delray Beach, Fla., nephew of the groom, were ringbearers.

John David Haley, brother of the bride, and John Hewitt Urquhart served as scripture readers. The guest book attendant was Linda Mitchell Martin.

A reception in Fitzpatrick Hall at the Jefferson Center followed the ceremony.

A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's family at Hurley's in Roanoke. Prenuptial events included a bridal luncheon and shower given by Elizabeth Dalton and Tara Skewes at La Maison in Roanoke; a luncheon hosted by Heather Coiro in the Virginia Room at the Hotel Roanoke, a shower given by Pauline Donato and Sarah Roberts at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Antonio Donato of Roanoke, a dinner hosted by Jane Cheadle, Jane Cunningham, Betty Henson and Diane Rosenberg at Alexander's in Roanoke, and a wedding morning brunch hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Gene Martin and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Thomasson at the Thomasson's home in Roanoke.

The bride is a graduate of Radford University and is employed as a buyer for RSVP, Ltd. in Roanoke. The groom is a graduate of Roanoke College and is the owner of Hurley's Restaurant in Roanoke.

After a wedding trip to Nantucket, Massachusetts, the couple will reside in Roanoke.

Hylton-Quisenberry

Sara Ellen Quisenberry and Christopher Charles Hylton were married on August 3, 1996. The parents of the bride are William and Lindy Quisenberry of Woodbridge, VA. The parents of the groom are Charles and Wanda Hylton of Roanoke. The service was performed by Reverend John Furman at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Roanoke.

The bride's attendants were Lynette Fitzpatrick and Lee Anne Quisenberry, sisters of the bride, and Teresa Kennedy, cousin of the groom. The groom's attendants were Charles Hylton, father of the groom, Aaron Hylton and Kevin Hylton, brothers of the groom, and David Quisenberry, brother of the bride.

Kefauver-Bechtel

Laura Bechtel and Wayne Kefauver were united in marriage on September 14, 1996 in Bible Baptist Church. The Rev. Jeff Gardner was the officiating clergyman. The reception was held at the church.
