The FBI is investigating the District of Columbia lottery board for possible corruption at the same time the city's financial control board takes action to abolish it, a newspaper reported Sunday.
The financial control agency issued an order Saturday abolishing the five-member lottery board, citing concerns that it is politically polarized.
It also voted unanimously to place the lottery agency's operations under the control of Anthony Williams, the city's chief financial officer.
Meanwhile, The Washington Post said Sunday the FBI is investigating possible contracting fraud, travel abuses and the operation of private businesses out of the lottery agency's headquarters.
The control board action came in response to Friday's 3-2 vote by the lottery board dismissing executive director Frederick King Jr. and replacing him with Sylvia Kinnard.
