from Smith Mountain Lake. Gentry was using an underwater video
camera Saturday to aid him in his survey of an area of the lake for
the placement of a water intake pipe for Highpoint subdivision. The
subdivision presently uses well water of poor quality. The Bedford
County Public Service Authority plans on upgrading the water quality
for the homes by pumping water from the lake, treating it, and
storing it in an existing water storage and distribution facility.
Pending approval from the Virginia Department of Health, the project
should be complete by the end of 1997. This will be the first
project on the lake to use lake water. color.
