Some people at Hidden Valley Junior High call Nancy Rohrbaugh "Momma. "I've been around here for so long," the school's sixth-grade language arts and math coordinator says with a laugh.
In Rohrbaugh's 36 years as a Roanoke County teacher, she's seen quite a few changes. The one thing that hasn't changed, she says, are the children.
"I find the children are still the same," she said. "Yes, there are more broken homes, but children are still children and they still need help and guidance.
"I will always try to respect each child as an individual and help each reach their potential," she said. "I know all children can be successful if given the right circumstances."
Rohrbaugh says she's upbeat about today's youth. They give her "hope and faith for the future," she said.
Rohrbaugh is married to a former educator who retired last year from Roanoke County Schools after 36 years. They have two daughters, two grandchildren and enjoy working on their historic home in Salem.
