Date-rape programs at colleges
``Date Rape: Stopping the Violence,'' a program on sexual assault and rape awareness prevention, will feature a panel discussion Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in Hollins College's Talmadge Hall.
Katie Koestner, who lectures nationally on sexual assault and draws on her own experiences, will give a keynote address on Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m., Roanoke College's Olin Hall.
The event is sponsored by the Roanoke Academy of Medicine and Roanoke and Hollins colleges.
The events are free and open to the public.

Nicaraguan labor organizer to speak
A Nicaraguan underground labor organizer will speak on the need for protection through labor unions Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Radford University's Ingles Hall and on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church.
``Roberto,'' who cannot use his real name, will speak on labor rights and abuses in factories in his native country. Clothing and goods produced in the free trade zone typically are made in sweat shops by women and children.
Attention-deficit disorder speaker
Psychiatrist Edward Hallowell, author of three books on attention deficit disorder, will be the featured speaker The Achievement Center's annual dinner on Oct. 4 at Hollins College.
Hallowell will discuss ``The ABC's of ADD.''
Hallowell is a faculty member of Harvard Medical School and maintains a private practice in Boston. He is co-author of ``Driven to Distraction,'' which appeared on The New York Times best-seller list, and ``Answers to Distraction.''
Tickets for the dinner and lecture are $18.50. The deadline for reservations, which can be made by calling 982-0128, is Friday.
