The State Corporation Commission has scheduled a series of hearings to resolve disputed issues between Bell Atlantic Corp. and five potential competitors for the company's local phone business in Virginia.
The federal Telecommunications Act of 1996 requires public service commissions, such as the SCC, to resolve disputes between existing companies and competitors. One potential area of conflict is the interconnection agreements to let competitors to plug into existing phone networks.
ATT Communications Services, TCG Virginia, Cox FiberNet Commercial Services, MFS Intelenet of Virginia and MCI Telecommunications have asked the SCC to intervene.
Hearings involving one or more of the new competitors will be Oct. 10, 15 and 23, Nov. 6 and Dec. 10. For times and locations of the hearings, call (804) 371-9141.
