YOU CAN GET COOKING IN OCTOBER

A variety of culinary offerings are planned for October.

*Popular instructor Charlotte Chan will conduct demonstration-style lessons at Mainstreet Bazaar in Blacksburg. Participants will receive copies of at least four recipes per session plus get to eat what is prepared. They'll also receive special merchandise discounts the night of the class.

The Bazaar's classes cost $14 each and will meet from 7 to 10 p.m. For more information or to register, call 951-4200.

FRESH PASTA, Oct. 1, will cover several flavors of handmade pasta, herbed fettuccine with snap peas, angel hair pasta with seafood, Japanese whole-wheat noodle salad and Farmer's Market pasta with clam sauce.

HOT AND SPICY CHINESE, Oct. 8, will include MaPo bean curd, family-style beef shreds, braised shrimp and chili chicken cubes.

PHYLLO, Oct. 15, will feature curry beef triangles, honey-nut cheesecake, "cigars" and chicken-spinach packets.

VIETNAMESE CUISINE, Oct. 22, will sample Hanoi beef soup, beef grilled in grape leaves, shrimp and pork spring roll and shrimp with vegetables and basil.

HOLIDAY COOKING & GIFT GIVING, Oct. 29, will include mushroom spread, biscotti, peach vinegar and Noel cake with orange sauce.

*The Health Management Center at Lewis-Gale Clinic will continue its series of mini classes, offering new recipes, techniques and samples. Sessions cost $6 each. Call 772-3750.

CUISINE FROM THE ORIENT, Oct. 8, from noon to 12:30 p.m., will feature recipes from Szechuan, Canton and Shanghai.
