Radford shut down Grayson County's Lindsey Carico in the second half to earn a 57-48 victory Tuesday night in a non-district game in Radford, avengint a two-point loss this past week.
Carico, the Mountain Empire District's leading scorer, had 14 points in the first half as the Blue Devils (2-7) took a 32-31 lead. She scored just four in the second half, as the Bobcats (7-4) held Grayson County to 16 points.
Charlee Taylor scored 15 points to lead a quartet of Radford double-digit scorers. Jenny Greco had 14, Kim Kimbleton 12 and Amanda Day had 10.
Mandy Smith scored 15 for the Blue Devils.
Lord Botetourt 74, Alleghany 53: Sara Moore scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the first quarter as the Cavaliers were able to hold on to an early lead for the Blue Ridge District victory over the Mountaineers in Daleville.
Moore also grabbed six rebounds and had five assists. Aimee Bird contributed 16 points and Katrina Elliot added four steals to her eight points.
Lord Botetourt (9-1 overall, 2-1 district) played without Sarah Hicks. The All-Timesland forward is doubtful for Thursday's game against Rockbridge County.
The Mountaineers (5-3, 1-2) were led by Natasha Chapman, who scored 13 points.
Staunton River 49, Liberty 21: Stephanie Alexander scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Golden Eagles (3-5, 2-0) to a Seminole District victory over the Minettes (2-10, 1-2) in Bedford.
Staunton River owned a five-point halftime lead, but was able to outscore Liberty 21-2 in the third quarter. Two players scored seven points each in the period. Erin Wolfe added 12 points.
Teona Callaham led the Minutemen with eight points.
Bath County 64, Buffalo Gap 57: Katie Hardbarger led the Chargers back in the second half as Bath County rallied to a win on Buffalo Gap's home floor in Swoope.
Hardbarger scored 15 of her game-high 25 points in the second half and scored nine in Bath County's 19-10 run in the third quarter. Suzanne Shanks, who scored 18, had five straight points to give Bath (4-5) a three-point lead in the third.
Amy Perry scored 12 for Bath.
Laurel Park 55, Tunstall 42: Brandy Martin scored eight points in a third-quarter run to lift the Lancers to a non-district victory in Martinsville.
Martin had 11 of her 15 points after halftime as Laurel Park (5-4) outscored Tunstall 25-16 after the break.
Tiffany Lynch also scored 15 for Laurel Park.
Patrick County 58, Carroll County 31: Anitra Huff scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Cougars (9-1) to the non-district victory over the Cavaliers (3-7) in Hillsville.
Huff scored nine of her 17 points in the first half to help the Cougars lead 34-13 at halftime. Patrick County worked its man-to-man pressure defense to perfection and had good ball movement to build the early lead.
The Cavaliers were paced by Angie Farmer, who scored 13 points.
Martinsville 82, Dan River 37: Latonya Martin scored 15 points, Erica Brandon and Tiffany Watkins had 13 each and Tekeshia Mitchell added 11 as the Bulldogs (6-3) rolled to a non-district victory in Ringgold.
Dan River (0-7) was led by Samantha Markham's 13 points and Latoya McKenzie's 12.
Galax 60, Fort Chiswell 44: The Maroon Tide finally solved the Pioneers' 1-3-1 zone defense in the fourth quarter and pulled away for a non-district victory in Galax.
Tiffany Williams scored 16 points for Galax (5-3), which committed only five turnovers. Erin Kyle had 14 points and Keisha Ayers added 13, including some key free throws down the stretch.
Pam Shumate had 11 points to lead Fort Chiswell (5-4), which could not overcome the loss of point guard Kay Harmon to an early ankle injury.
Rocky Gap 59, Pocahontas 36: Michelle Sarver scored 12 of her game-high 24 points in a second-quarter surge that helped the Eagles win a Mountain Empire District game in Rocky Gap.
The Eagles (5-5, 1-1) trailed 8-5 after a quarter, but went on a 21-11 run in the second. Sarver made four of her five 3-pointers in the first half. Melissa Leedy scored 15 and Sarah French pulled down 13 rebounds for the Eagles.
Pamela Nunley scored 11 for Pocahontas (1-6, 0-4).
Narrows 64, Bland 46: Suzanne Webb scored 10 of her 14 points in the first quarter to help the Green Wave maintain an early lead and beat the Rockets in Bland.
Tara Collins added 13 points and Laura Bailey contributed 10 for Narrows (8-2, 3-0). The Green Wave used pressure defense early and forced 10 Rockets turnovers in the first half to take a 22-7 lead in the first quarter.
Leslie Carroll scored a game-high 18 points and collected 10 rebounds for Bland. The Rockets (0-9, 0-3) were hurt by some injuries, but they tried to battle back in the fourth quarter behind Carroll's nine points. But it was too little, too late for the Rockets.
Northwood 69, Rural Retreat 50: Jill Woodward scored 37 points to lead the Panthers past the Indians in a Hogoheegee District game in Rural Retreat.
Crystal Kestner added 19 for Northwood (9-1, 3-0).
Martha Crigger and Kristie Osborne led Rural Retreat (4-4, 1-2) with 13 points each.
Northside 62, Rockbridge County 46: Crystal Barrett and Amber Kern each had seven points in the third quarter as the Vikings broke open a Blue Ridge District game at Lexington.
Northside (8-1, 3-0) outscored Rockbridge County (0-9, 0-3) 26-11 in the third. Barrett finished with 11 points to lead the Vikings.
Rockbridge's Kate Ides had 11 points, 14 rebounds and six blocked shots. Elizabeth Faulkner scored 12.
Giles 67, Craig County 25: Cristen White had all but two of her game high 15 points in the first half as the Spartans (4-5) rolled in a non-district matchup in New Castle.
Jodi Mullins joined White in double figures with 11 points. All but one Giles player scored.
Sommer Horn led Craig County with 10 points. The Rockets shot 15 percent from the field.
George Wythe 51, Patrick Henry-Glade Spring 45: Megan Johnson scored 13 points as the Maroons won a Hogoheegee District game in Glade Spring.
Freshman Ashley Neese scored 26 for PH.
Monday's game
Eastern Mennonite 59, Highland 51, 2 OT: Eastern Mennonite scored the final eight points in the second overtime to turn back the Rams.
Highland (3-3) started the game with six players, but fell into foul trouble in the overtime sessions and finished the contest with two players - Kim Colaw and Joanna Wilson.
Trailing 51-48 late in the final period, the Rams' Tara Hiner hit her third 3-pointer of the game. Hiner fouled out moments later, setting the stage for Eastern Mennonite's decisive 8-0 run.
Highland was paced by Tammy Shifflett's 30 points, 13 of which came in the fourth period. Eastern Mennonite got 33 points, including three 3-pointers, from Emily Mullet.
