WOMAN CHARGED IN KILLING BOYFRIEND SHOT IN FRANKLIN CO. HOME

The girlfriend of a Franklin County man was charged Tuesday with killing him.

Clyde Price Jr., 29, was shot several times Monday night inside the trailer where he lived off Virginia 810 in Sydnorsville.

His live-in girlfriend, Angela Light, 24, was charged Tuesday morning with murder and using a gun to commit a felony, county Commonwealth's Attorney Cliff Hapgood said.

Sheriff's deputies responded about 8 p.m. Monday to a 911 call made from the mobile home in Sydnorsville, a community a few miles south of Rocky Mount.

They found Price dead with gunshot wounds to the chest and back, Sheriff's Office Investigator Ewell Hunt said.

Price was shot with a large-caliber handgun.

Hunt said the woman who made the 911 call said she shot Price in self-defense.

When Light was taken into custody for questioning, she asked for a lawyer; late Monday night, Circuit Judge B.A. Davis III appointed Rocky Mount attorney Tim Allen to represent her.

Hunt said Light has made no statements to investigators.

Clyde Price had a criminal record, Hapgood said. He had been charged with assault, malicious wounding and possession of drugs, county documents show.

Light was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Franklin County General District Court, and bond was set at $50,000. She did not make bond Tuesday and was taken to the Roanoke City Jail, where Franklin County houses many of its female inmates.
