Vinton parade needs performers
The Vinton Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting entries for the Vinton Christmas Parade. Marching units, floats, clowns and other entertainment groups are welcome. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Fincastle Festival set for Sept. 28-29
The 28th Annual Fincastle Festival will be held Sept. 28, 10 a.m-6 p.m. and Sept. 29, 12:30-5 p.m. The event features tours of the town and historic homes, craft demonstrations and music. Crafts, needlework and homemade jams will be on sale. A variety of foods will be available including a German beer garden and wine-tasting. Activities for children include donkey rides, games and story-telling.

Craig County holds festival Oct. 12
The Craig County Fall Festival and Antique Car show will be held Oct. 12, from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. in New Castle. The festival will feature live music, dancing, historical tours, food and more. Admission is free.
City schools offer SAT prep course
A preparatory course for the Scholastic Assessment Test will be offered by the guidance services department of Roanoke Public Schools. The class is open to anyone planning to take the November or December SAT. The course will be held on six Saturdays beginning Sept. 21. The cost is $30 for students in Roanoke schools and $40 for other students.
