Hills Department Store donated more than $450,000 worth of classroom equipment and supplies to 1,214 public schools last year through its "Supply-a-School" program. This program allows participating schools to collect the bottom portion of Hills receipts and redeem them for a variety of educational materials.

This year, 10 Roanoke-area schools will benefit from this program, which will apply to receipts dated from Aug. 1, 1996 to April 30, 1997 . The program started two months earlier than in previous years.
