Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Wayne Bernard Sr. of Oil City, La., Aubrey Allen Bernard of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Deborah Hicks of Baltimore, Md., Donna Danielson of Eastern Shore of Maryland; one sister, Dixie Cooper of Union Hall; his former wife, Margie Zahn Bernard Conant of Baltimore, Md. BLACK, Rosemary, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, September 24, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. She is survived by her husband, Horace Earl Black; one son, Noel A. Hensley of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Anita Hengeli of Roanoke; a grandson, Noel A. Hensley Jr. of Austin, Texas; two stepchildren, Cameron E. Black and Connie Young Bedford; four stepgrandchildren, and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Friday, September 27, 1996, at 2 p.m., at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Carter L. Sloan officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Roanoke Chapel.

BRADLEY, Thomas Glynn Sr., 80, of Oakwood Street, Bedford, died Thursday, September 26, 1996, in a Lynchburg Hospital. His wife, Deborah Ralph Bradley, died February 21, 1995. He was a longtime resident of Bedford, where he was active in civic and community affairs. He was retired from his business, Bradley Lumber Company. During World War II Mr. Bradley served with the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe in the 84th Infantry Division. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the Board of Directors of Bedford Federal Savings Bank. For many years he was the Secretary of the Bedford City Electoral Board and was the first Building Official for Bedford County, serving from 1972 to 1976. Surviving are a son, Thomas Glynn Bradley Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of King George County; a granddaughter, Heather Ann Bradley of William and Mary College; two sisters, Mrs. James L. W. West of Blacksburg and Mrs. Richard F. Ebert of Elmwood Park, N.J.; nine nieces and nephews, Robert N. Bradley of Roanoke, Sharon Bradley of Richmond, Mrs. Harold Burkhart of Blacksburg, James L. W. West III of State College, Pa., John N. Bradley of Atlanta, Ga., Susan Bradley Kuhn of Clifton, John White and Lincoln White of Lynchburg, and Richard White of Rustburg; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth White of Lynchburg; four foster grandchildren, John Rudd, Deborah Rudd DeJarnett, Lisa Rudd and William Rudd. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 1996, at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tommy R. Speight and the Rev. Earl Ragland officiating. FOWLER, Gray Bales, 66, of Marion, died Wednesday, Septembe r 25, 1996, in Smyth County Community Hospital. Mrs. Fowler was a resident of Marion for 26 years, then resided in Miami, Fla. for 31 years. She was an Assistant Director of greater Miami YMCA. Mrs. Fowler returned to Marion in 1989. She was a member of the Marion Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Fred Fowler of Marion; one brother, Walter Bales of Atkins; two sisters, Oolah Moore of Newport, N.C. and Thelma Snider of Baltimore, Md.; several nieces and nephews. GOURLAY, Amelia Stewart, 92, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 1996, in the Carriage Hill Retirement Center. She was born February 29, 1904 in New York City, N.Y., a daughter of the late Robert Francis Stewart and Amelia Eliza Harra Stewart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart I. Gourlay; a sister, Sarah S. Dunn; and a brother, Charles F. Stewart. She was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church, and attended the Art Student League of New York City and the Chicago Art Institute. She is survived by a niece, Mrs. John (Jacqueline) Gergen, Champaign, Ill.; and a number of other nieces and nephews; and grand-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 28, 1996, at 2 p.m. from the St. John's Episcopal Church, by the Rev. Dr. James Henry. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. There will be a reception immediately following the interment in the church fellowship hall. He was born in Bedford County on November 10, 1909, a son of the late Oscar Lloyd Milton and Maggie Docie Carter Milton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Aretta Lynch. Sowers of Lewisberry, Pa., and Wesley Sowers and Randy Sowers of Riner; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Elsie Graham of Riner and Bessie Reed of Glasgow. WINFREE, Peyton B., III, 59, of Charlottesville, died Thursday morning, September 26, 1996, at his home. Born August 14, 1937 in Lynchburg, Va., he was the son of Mrs. Peyton B. Winfree, Jr. of Roanoke and the late Peyton B. Winfree, Jr. Mr. Winfree was a graduate of Virginia Episcopal School, attended Washington and Lee University and served in the United States Army. He retired from the Equitable Life Assurance Society and was currently a manager for John Hancock Financial Services. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Davis Winfree; his children, Ann Winfree Scott of Richmond, Peyton Brown Winfree, IV of Alexandria, Carrington Wyatt Elliott and Asher Davis Elliott, both of Rustburg; and two sisters, Mrs. Robert C. Hilton, Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee and Mrs. Garrett G. Gooch, IV of Roanoke. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 1996, in All Saints Anglican Church, Rt. 250 West, Charlottesville. WOODS, Herman Nathaniel, 71, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 1996 at Virginia Veterans Care Center. He was born May 24, 1924 in Amherst County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Younger Woods and his mother, Mrs. Minnie Thomas. He leaves to mourn his son, Mr. Jerome Childress; stepdaughter, Mrs. Margaret (Charles) Burnette; granddaughter, Ms. Keisha Bias; aunt, Mrs. Elaine Ward; cousin, Mrs. Gloria Gravely; four stepgrandchildren; and a devoted friend, Mrs. Virginia Hayes; and a host of other relatives and friends.
