Extra-large model airplanes will be buzzing through the skies over the former AT&T site in Pulaski County starting shortly after 9 a.m. today and Sunday, at a fly-in sponsored by the Pulaski County Flying Aces.
Onlookers are invited to come by any time after the fog lifts in the morning and even into the night, because one of the visiting participants has a night-flying model with an array of lights that makes it an unusual sight in he dark.
The Flying Aces is a club of builders and flyers of radio-controlled model airplanes. It usually flies on Sundays over about 12 acres of the former AT&T site, now an industrial park. The club leases the acreage from Pulaski County and keeps its grass planted for smooth takeoffs and landings.
But the weekend fly-in brings participants from other clubs across the country to fly the larger models, none with a wing-span under 63 inches. After 5 p.m., the flying opens up for any size models once more.
Roger Vass said the public is welcome to attend all or any part of the weekend flying festivities at no charge.
