RURAL RETREAT NIPS JOHN BATTLE

John Battle missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer, giving Rural Retreat a 43-40 victory in a Hogoheegee District matchup in Bristol on Thursday night.

The Indians (5-4 overall, 2-2 district) trailed for much of the game, but rallied behind Christie Osborne's 14 points. Dana Booher scored 14 points for the Trojans (1-6, 1-3).

In other games Thursday night:

Tunstall 61, Magna Vista 46: The Trojans took an early lead and coasted to a victory over the Warriors in Dry Fork. Magna Vista (5-4) managed only six points in the first quarter.

Melissa Dixon led the Trojans with 20 points and Sherita Paige added 16 points. The Warriors were led by Katrena Redd's 13 points and Sandi Reid's 11 points.

Fieldale-Collinsville 69, Chatham 56: Fieldale-Collinsville finished each half with a flourish to defeat Chatham in a non-district game in Collinsville.

Fieldale-Collinsville (6-5) was led by Jennifer Witt's 22 points. Carrie Quinlan added 12 points and seven rebounds. Chatham was led by Lashonda Clarke's 21 points.

Laurel Park 80, Dan River 19: Tiffany Lynch scored a game-high 18 points and had five steals as the Lancers dominated the Wildcats in Martinsville.

Brandy Martin scored 13 of her 15 points in Laurel Park's 32-point third quarter and came up with nine steals. Shameka Tinsley added six steals to her four points. The Lancers (6-4) held the Wildcats to single digits in every quarter and only two points each in the first and fourth quarters.

Latoya McKenzie paced Dan River with 10 points.

Bassett 61, Gretna 42: The Bengals' defense was the key during the second and third quarters to the non-district victory over the Hawks in Bassett.

Bassett (10-1) outscored Gretna 31-14 during the middle quarters. The Bengals were led by Jamie Roberts with 14 points. Crystal Boyd paced Gretna (3-3) with 20 points.

Parry McCluer 59, Riverheads 40: The Fighting Blues played under control all night and cruised to a non-district victory in Buena Vista.

Lindsey Coleman had a game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead Parry McCluer (5-4). Laura Wilkerson scored 12 for the Gladiators.
