A two-vehicle accident in Henry County Saturday evening left one man dead and three other people injured.
Joel Dean Hundley, 37, of Martinsville died a short time after the accident at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Hundley was a passenger in a pickup truck that was headed north on U.S. 220 in Collinsville about 5:30 p.m. when it veered into the southbound lane and struck a sport-utility vehicle almost head on, state police said.
The pickup's driver, Richard Lee Putnam, 42, of Bassett, and a second passenger, Harold Spencer, 38, of Martinsville were flown from Memorial to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. A nursing supervisor said they were in critical condition.
The driver of the sport-utility vehicle, Joyce Kilby Stone, 36, of Martinsville was treated at Memorial and released.
State police also reported a fatal accident in Carroll County Saturday.
Timothy Jay Hill, 35, of the county's Cana community was killed about 9 a.m. when his car ran off the left side of Virginia 620 and struck a tree, state police said.
Police continue to investigate both accidents.
