CELEBRATIONS - WEDDINGS I

Alls-Cundiff

Kristi Michelle Cundiff and Randy Lee Alls were married August 17, 1996 at the home of the groom's grandparents, Harold and Lydia Harrison. The Reverend Paris Bain officiated at the 7:00 p.m. outdoor ceremony. A reception was held on the grounds of the home.

Maid of honor was Jackie Cundiff, sister of the bride. Scott Campbell, friend of the groom, served as best man. Greg Cundiff, brother of the bride, provided the wedding music. Guest book attendant was Karen Williams, cousin of the bride. Wedding director was Chris Bain.

Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a formal gown of white satin with a sweetheart neckline and deep V back. The lace bodice was embellished with pearls and sequins. She carried a cascade bouquet of white roses and miniature mauve carnations interspersed with baby's breath, ivy, and pearls.

The bride is the daughter of Carroll and Senia Cundi ff and the granddaughter of Mildred Cundiff. All are of Vinton. Kristi is a graduate of William Byrd High School and is employed by Hubbard Service Department.

The groom is the son of Donna Harrison Alls. Grandparents are Harold and Lydia Harrison and Kenneth and Hazel Alls, all of Roanoke. Randy is a graduate of Staunton River High School and is employed by Deluxe Floors.

After a wedding trip to Virginia Beach, the couple is residing in Roanoke.

Amburgey-Ziegler

Ruth Elizabeth Ziegler and Shane Andrew Amburgey were married September 28, 1996 in Church of the Holy Spirit. Pastor Quigg Lawrence was the officiating clergyman. The reception was held at the Patrick Henry Hotel.

Jennifer Williams, friend, was the matron of honor. The bridesmaids were Dale Pruett, sister; Missy Rowan and Catie Giles, friends; and Tracey Underwood, niece. Shana and Kira Bailey, nieces, and Holly Harrison, friend, were the flowergirls.

John McCullough, friend, served as best man. The ushers were Clay Bowles, Jim Dhane, Brian Taylor, and Ben Grady, friends. Curtis and Joshua Pruett, nephews, were the ringbearers. Ashley Ratliff was the guestbook attendant.

The bride's satin gown featured a v'd neckline and back, accented with pearls and buttons. Sparkling appliques detailed the bodice and long illusion sleeves. The train was extensive lace finishing the hem. Her headpiece was a heavily beaded crown of pearls and sequins, and she carried a cascade bouquet of silk roses and ivy.

The bride is a daughter of William and Marie Ziegler of Roanoke. She is a graduate of Cave Spring High School and is attending Mary Baldwin College. She is employed by Martin Travel.

The groom is the son of Gene Amburgey of Roanoke and the late Roger Amburgey of Tazewell. He is a graduate of Cave Spring High School and Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. He is employed by Katie's Ice Cream & Chocolates.

The newlyweds will live in Roanoke after the wedding trip to Hilton Head, S.C.

Ausband-York

Carrie Montine York and Zachary Dain Ausband were married September 21 in Asheboro Friends Meeting. Rev. Ricky Sessoms and Rev. Robert Kidd officiated. The reception was held at the Pinewood Country Club.

The maid of honor was Lynn Meier, step-sister of the bride. The bridesmaids were Celena West, Alison Gusler, and Nicole McRae Pack. The flowergirl was Mayghan Pack.

The best man was Robert Ausband, father of the groom. The ushers were Chris Ayers, Wayne Lambeth II, and Keith Gelinas. Honorary usher was David Meier, step-father of the bride. The escort of the flowergirl was Austin Black.

The guest book was attended by Elizabeth Ausband, sister of the groom.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.H. Meier & Mr. and Mrs. Bill York of Asheboro, NC. She is a graduate of Asheboro High School in Asheboro, NC, and is attending Montgomery Community College in Troy, NC. She is employed part-time with Klaussner Furniture Outlet.

The groom is the son of Ms. Susan Byron of Asheboro, NC, & Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ausband of Daleville, VA. He graduated from Asheboro High School in Asheboro, NC, and is employed by the U.S. Navy.

The newlyweds will honeymoon in Orlando, Florida.

Ayers-Ewart

Margaret Ann Ewart and Christopher Todd Ayers were married Saturday, September 28, 1996 at seven o'clock at Christ Episcopal Church. The Reverend Deborah Hentz Hunley officiated at the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lavens Ewart, Jr., of Roanoke, Virginia. She is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School and attended Mars Hill College and Virginia Western Community College. She is employed by Business Communications Systems, Inc., of Roanoke, Virginia.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Eugene Ayers, of Roanoke, Virginia. He is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School and Hampden-Sydney College. He is employed by Unisource Worldwide, Inc., of Roanoke, Virginia.

Mary Catherine Baldridge, of Roanoke, Virginia, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. The bridesmaids were Anne Jennings Bell, of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Rhonda Leigh Marshall, of Greensboro, North Carolina, Catherine Dawn Martin, of Hickory, North Carolina, Katherine Gatewood Scott, of Richmond, Virginia and Jennifer Smith Wunderlich, of Memphis, Tennessee. Anne Burke Baldridge, niece of the bride, was the flowergirl.

Mr. Merle Eugene Ayers, father of the groom, served as best man. The groomsmen were James Mason Ayers, brother of the groom, John Duke Baldridge, III and Thomas Robert Schroeder, all of Roanoke, Virginia, John Stephen Boehling and James Fielding Douthat, Jr., of Richmond, Virginia.

A reception held at the home of the bride's parents followed the ceremony. After the wedding trip, the couple will reside in Roanoke, Virginia.

Bailey-Neece

Lori Ann Neece and Gregory Alan Bailey were united in marriage in a candlelight setting on July 13, 1996, at Bonsack Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Moore officiating.

Dana Bailey served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Catherine Sanders and Keri Kidd. Flower girl was Holly Breann Bailey.

Larry Bailey, father of groom, served as best man, along with groomsmen Jerry and Brian Bailey, brothers of groom. Ring bearer was Justin Bailey, nephew of the groom.

The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Richard Neece. The bride attended William Fleming and is currently employed by First Union. The groom attended William Byrd High School and served four years in the U. S. Navy and is currently employed by the U. S. Postal Service as a City Letter Carrier.

The couple reside in Roanoke, Va.

Carr-Garvey

Lindsey Garvey and Scott Carr were married September 28, 1996 at Oak Grove Church of the Brethren in Roanoke, Virginia. The Rev. Tony Hash officiated. A reception followed in the fellowship hall and a post-wedding BBQ was held at the American Legion in Salem. Master Chef Chris McClure prepared the BBQ.

The bride is the daughter of Audrey Bower and Ron Garvey.

The groom is the son of Carley and Alice Carr.

The bride's sister, Marla Vandergrift, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Jennifer Vandergrift, sister-in-law of the bride; Carla Ralston, sister of the groom; and Kellie McManus, best friend of the bride.

The groom's father served as best man. Groomsmen were Scott Vandergrift, brother of the bride; Mike Ralston, brother-in-law of the groom; and Jason St. Clair, best friend of the groom.

Erin Rose Vandergrift, niece of the bride, was flower girl.

The couple will reside in Franklin County.

Dixon-Hulsey

Marilyn Elmore Hulsey and James Mallory Dixon were married September 28 in All Saint's Chapel, Sewannee, Tennesse. Rev. Clifford Schane officiated. The reception was held at Rivendell.

The maid of honor was Martha Anne Meyer. The bridesmaids were Caroline Allison, Elizabeth Cantey, Clark Harwell, Michelle Hill, Leashaun Jacobson, Michael Maxwell and Mildred Salamone.

The best man was Walter Moore Dixon III, brother of the groom. The ushers were Charles Anderson III, Ethan Cook, Duncan Hulsey, Matthew Looney, Robert Spessard III, John Thompson, Jr. and James Williams, Jr.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Cary Hulsey of Birmingham, Alabama. She is a graduate of University of the South in Sewanee, TN, and is employed by Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

The bridegroom is the son of Anne Nimm Dixon and Walter Moore Dixon, Jr. of Roanoke. He is a graduate of University of the South in Sewanee, TN, and is employed by Regions Bank.

The newlyweds will live in Birmingham, Alabama, after the wedding trip to St. Barthelemy.

Doran-Barton

Anita Gail Barton and Scott Patrick Doran were united in marriage on Saturday, August 17, 1996, at White Rock Baptist Church, Hardy, Va., with the Rev. Perry Lundy officiating. Rev. Rick Harris and Rev. Steve Witt each said special prayers for the couple during the ceremony. The reception followed in the church fellowship hall.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Wayne D. Barton of Hardy. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Nellie P. Booth and the late John Booth, and Mrs. Kathleen M. Barton and the late Euell Barton, all of Hardy.

The groom is the son of Ms. Brenda D. Doran and Mr. & Mrs. Danny P. Doran, of Roanoke. He is the grandson of Mr. & Mrs. Horace Dowdy of Salem, and the late Herman and Shirley Doran of Roanoke and Mrs. Helen Doran of Salem.

Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a gown of beautiful silk venice lace. The gown had a portrait off-the-shoulder neckline with fitted basque bodice accented with pearls and sequins. The full flowing skirt of elegant tulle layers fell into a chapel length train decorated with scattered pearl and sequin appliques. Her floor length veil fell from a tiara of seed pearls accented with shimmering sequins. She carried a cascading bouquet of white roses, stephanotis and ivy accented with miniature pink and purple wild flowers.

Krystal Lundy, friend of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Sheri Booth & Dana Booth, cousins of the bride; Amy Doran, sister of the groom; & Donna Prichard, friend of the bride. Diana Booth, cousin of the bride, was a junior bridesmaid. Mary Elizabeth Doran, sister of the groom, was the flower girl.

Jeff Dix, friend of the groom, served as best man. The groomsmen were Ed Jones, Kevin Rider, Warren Taylor and Chris Willeford, all friends of the groom. Brian Booth, c ousin of the bride, was a junior groomsman. Christian Lundy, son of Rev. & Mrs. Perry Lundy, was the ring bearer. John Booth & Jarrett Booth, cousins of the bride, served as ushers.

A special program of music was performed by Mike Miller, pianist; Steve Love, trumpeter; Naomi Van Cleave, accompanist; Jennifer Albert & Greg Capito, vocalists; and Bill Rockefeller, sound technician, all friends of the bride and groom.

Special thanks to Mrs. Barbara Wilfong & Mrs. Megan Dix, the bride's personal attendants; Karrie Moses, guest book attendant; Shawna Otey, program attendant; Mrs. Frances Allen, gift table attendant; Paul Aronson & Calvin Plybon (great uncle of the bride), videographers; and David Aronson, photographer, all friends of the bride & groom. After a honeymoon trip to Myrtle Beach, the couple will live in Hardy.

Formanek-Flaherty

The marriage of Ellen Alice Flaherty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Meade Flaherty of Chester, Virginia, to Roger Nathaniel Formanek, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Nathaniel Formanek, Sr. formally of Marion, Iowa, took place May 31st at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church, Roanoke, Virginia.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her mother and father. Carol Flaherty Megrail was the matron of honor and John Doll was the groom's best man. Ushers were Richard Flaherty, Timothy Formanek and John Formanek. Scott Flaherty and Michael Formanek read passages from The Bible.

A reception was held at Patrick Henry Hotel. The rehearsal dinner, given by the groom's parents, was at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Gary O'Hagen. Mrs. Thomas Courtney, aunt of the groom, gave the couple a bridal shower in July. Following their honeymoon, the couple will reside in Lawrence, Kansas.

Fralin-Isom

Melissa Sherrae Isom and William Wayne Fralin, Jr. were united in marriage on September 21, 1996, at Lynn Haven Baptist Church in Vinton, VA, with the Reverend Michael Lynn, cousin of the bride, officiating. The reception followed at the Lancerlot Sports Complex, Vinton, Virginia.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ray Isom of Vinton and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Wayne Fralin, Sr., of Roanoke.

Nicole Hiner, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. The bridesmaids were Yvette Isom, sister of the bride, Gina Flowers, sister of the groom, Tammy Terry, cousin of the bride, Susan Tyler and Erin Journell, friends of the bride. Junior bridesmaid was Kirsten Cundiff, friend of the bride. Flower girls were Olivia Hiner, bride's niece, Molli and Danielle Flowers, nieces of the groom.

William W. Fralin, Sr., father of the groom, was best man. The groomsen were Kenny Flowers, groom's brother-in-law, Travis Faw, Mike Cawley, Brian Anderson, and Brent Anderson, friends of the groom. Junior groomsman was Kyle Clark, cousin of the groom. Philip Alderman, cousin of the bride, served as ringbearer.

The guestbook was attended by Robin Tyler, friend of the bride.

After a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the couple will reside in Vinton, Virginia.

Gellatly-Weise

Elizabeth Marie Weise and Andrew William Gellatly were united in marriage on September 28, 1996 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Blacksburg, VA. Rev. Donald Lemay performed the ceremony. The evening reception was held at the Red Lion Fest Halle.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Weise, Jr., of Kenmore, NY. A graduate of Potsdam College, the bride has a master of education from Virginia Tech and is employed by Virginia Tech.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Robert Gellatly of Cape Cod, MA. A graduate of the University of Michigan, the groom has a M.S. and is a Ph.D. student in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech.

Debbie Kasson, friend, was best woman. Jim Gilbert, friend, was the best man. Sisters Margaret, Kati and Vicki, with cousin Karen and friend Leah Payne were the honor attendants. The groomsmen were brother Jim, cousins Jamie and David Fiedrich, and friends Tom Rao and Vic Paquet. Friends Kelly Mergler, David Rogers and Eric Tammes were the readers. Katie Sina was the soloist. Godsey-Caldwell

Pamela Lynn Caldwell and Troy Shane Godsey were united in marriage on August 17, 1996, at the Chapel in the Valley, in Gatlinburg, Tenn.

The bride is the daughter of Palmer and Glenda Caldwell of Christiansburg. The groom is the son of Norman and Rebecca Godsey of Peterstown, WV.

They are both employed at Radford University. After their honeymoon in Gatlinburg, the couple made their home in Peterstown, WV.

Goode-Hutton United in Holy Matrimony

The most sacred and holy matrimony service was held at Sweet Union Baptist Church, Roanoke, for Lauren Kimberley Hutton and William Allen Goode, Jr. on Saturday, August 24, 1996, 1:00 p.m. Dr. Edward T. Burton officiated the double ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Marva Wright Hutton, Roanoke, and Mr. Robert Lloyd Hutton, New York, and the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Otha and Annie Wright, Sr., Roanoke, and Mr. and Mrs. Alphonso and Mae Quintyne, New York.

The groom is the son of Mrs. Frances Goode, Danville, VA, and Mr. and Mrs. William and Ulean Torain, Chatham, VA.

The bride wore a beautiful white barque satin beaded gown with a chapel length train. She carried a lovely bouquet of white roses, stephanotis, gardenias and baby's breath.

Jennifer Morrison, friend of bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Tivoli Harris, college friend of bride; Teresa Torain, cousin of groom; Joyce Washington, college friend of bride; and Sarah Wilkerson, friend of bride.

Kenneth Goode served his brother as best man. Groomsmen were Wayne Fitzgerald, uncle of groom; Jeffrey Hubbard, friend of groom; Jason Lloyd Hutton, brother of bride; and Henry Motley, cousin of groom.

Serving as ushers were Marc Wainwright, friend of groom, and Adrian Michael Wright, cousin of bride. Greeters were Whitney Wright, cousin of bride, and Carrie Layman, friend of bride.

Lakeeya Goode, niece of groom, was the beautiful flower girl. Brenton Lloyd Hutton, handsome little nephew of the bride, served as ring bearer, carrying the Holy Bible accented with flowers.

Beautiful music was provided by Maxine N. Hunt, organist; Anita D Wilson, pianist; Narcissus Bishop, vocalist, and Ulean Goode, vocalist, sister of groom.

Guest Book Attendant was LaShonya Hutton , sister-in-law of bride. Little Miss Aisha Adams, friend of bride, served as a hostess and rendered the inspirational prayer at the reception. Cornell Fitzgerald, aunt of groom, also served as a hostess.

The wedding and reception was captured on video by Michael Wright, uncle of bride.

Consultants and Coordinators for this astonishing wedding were Norman C. and Angeline L. Jones.

The burgundy and gold enhanced with deep pink and purple decor exemplified throughout the wedding, was extended at the lavish reception held at Hotel Roanoke. Upon the bride and groom's departure, they were showered with sparkling bubbles.

This occasion was highlighted with a rehearsal dinner at The Ground Round and was attended by all out of town guests, family, friends and wedding court.

Lauren and William both are graduates of Virginia Tech University. She is a research biologist for S.R.A. Technologies and he is an engineer for Loiderman & Associates, Inc., both in Rockville, MD. After a honeymoon in Florida, the couple will reside in Germantown, MD.

Green-Cochran

Lorene Paige Cochran and Mark Edmund Green were married September 28, 1996, at Brookhill Baptist Church. Pastor Wilmar P. Wegner officiated. The reception followed at the Vinton War Memorial. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delane Cochran of Roanoke. The groom is the son of Mr. Jim Green and Mrs. Anna-Marie Green, Urbanna, Va. Maid of honor was the sister of the bride, Sara Cochran. Bridesmaids were Joan Carle, Carolyn Allen, Kim Padua and Kim Campbell. Junior bridesmaid was Kendal Payne. Flower girl was Jessica Rorabough. Best man was David Green, brother of the groom. Groomsmen were R. J. Kulp, Keith Locks, Tony Padua and Trevor Pack. Junior usher was Corey Payne and ring bearer was Christopher Green. After a wedding trip to the Smokey Mountains, the couple will reside in Richmond, Va.

Hawthorne-Hoover

Friends and family witnessed as Melissa Jane Hoover and Gregory Scott Hawthorne were united in Holy Matrimony on July 20,1996 at First Baptist Church. The couple now make their home in Boones Mill, Va.
