ADAMS, Jerry, 57, of Independence, passed away Sunday, September 29, 1996. Funeral 11 a.m. Tuesday, Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel.

AKERS, Mary Sue Reynolds Stoots, 79, formerly of Austinville and Pulaski, died Sunday, September 29, 1996, in Hampton, where she had resided since 1992. Born on July 27, 1917, in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of the late Ewell Branson Reynolds and Ethel Maude Coleman Reynolds of Max Meadows. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Pulaski, where she had taught Sunday School for 40 years and was an active member of the Women's Ministry Auxiliary. Known for her love and acts of kindness directed toward the elderly, in the past she frequently visited the home bound, nursing homes, hospitals and performed various charity activities within the surrounding communities. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Johnny Raymond Stoots, formerly of Austinville, and a son, Ralph Carlton Stoots Sr. of Chester and formerly of Pulaski. She is survived by her husband, Emitte Graden Akers of Hampton; one daughter, Patsy S. Gray, and son-in-law, R. Wayne Gray of Hampton; four sisters, Ethel Margaret Crocket of Max Meadows, Rachel Alma Cline and Katherine Virginia Thompson of Wytheville and Dorothy Earl Reichenback of Manheim, Pa.; three brothers, Howard Brooks Reynolds and Eldridge Walter Reynolds of Austinville and Willard (``Bill"") Coleman Reynolds of Wytheville; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 1996, from Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. James W. Alley officiating. Visiting will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 20 Koger Center, Suite 233, Norfolk, Va. 23502.

ALDRIDGE, Alfred Lee, 59, of Salem, passed away Sunday, September 29, 1996. Mr. Aldridge was an Air Force veteran. He was a member of Ninth Street Church of the Brethren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rexie M. and Willie H. Aldridge, and a daughter, Lisa Marie Aldridge. Surviving are his wife, Viola Canaday Aldridge; daughters, Teresa A. Lyle, Kim A. Jones and Vanessa Gwyn Aldridge of Roanoke; stepchildren, Kevin Tabor of Roanoke, Michael Caperton of Winston-Salem, N.C., Cheri C. Tucker of Albemarle, N.C., and Kristy C. Lynch of Eden, N.C.; brothers, Wink Aldridge of Roanoke and Vernon Aldridge of Tempe, Ariz.; sisters, Deanne Custer and Lorene Trent of Roanoke, Neta Miller of Columbia, S.C., and Bertie Vance of Baltimore, Md.; grandchildren, Adam Lyle, Heather Jones and Tanner Brown; stepgrandchildren, Ashley Tabor, Allysa Tabor, Devon Blalock, Courtney Caperton, Michael Caperton II and Zachary Lynch; mother-in-law, Pauline Edwards of Salem, and father-in-law, Ernest Canaday of Guntown, Miss. AYDLETT, Elizabeth Lamb, 71, of Blacksburg, died Friday, September 27, 1996 at her home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 30, 1996, at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Blacksburg, with the Rev. Gary Schroeder officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion, Va. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.

CARTER, Rev. T. Eugene, 65, of Roanoke, died Sunday, September 29, 1996. Before his retirement in 1994, Rev. Carter was the District Superin tendent of the Roanoke District of the United Methodist Church. He also served as the District Superintendent for Rappahanock in Lynchburg Districts. Rev. Carter served churches in Kilmarnick, Winchester, Richmond and Roanoke. A graduate of Randolph-Macon College and Emory University, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy W. Carter, and parents, Rev. and Mrs. O. B. Carter. Rev. Carter is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Thomas Scott and Stuart S. Carter, Richmond, Blair W. Carter, Roanoke; grandsons, Thomas Scott, Jr. and William S. Carter, Richmond; brother, O. Blair Carter, Richmond. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at South Roanoke United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond. The family will receive friends at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Roanoke United Methodist Church or Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va.

CLEMMER, William Scott, (``Fly Wheel""), 36, of Roanoke, died Sunday, September 29, 1996. Arrangements by Lotz Roanoke Chapel.

CONNER, Genova Hundley, 69, of Check, died Saturday night, September 28, 1996, at Friendship Health Care Center in Roanoke. Surviving are her husband, James Early Conner of Check; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Carol Conner of Christiansburg, and Jay and Diane Conner of Hampton; two daughters, Joyce Abbott of Check and Carolyn King of Christiansburg; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and two sisters and brothers- in-law, Reba and Carl Craighead of Glade Spring, and Opal and Keith Young of Copper Hill. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home in Floyd, with the Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will be in Wilson Cemetery. CRAWFORD, John Cline, 65, of Lexington, died Saturday, September 28, 1996, in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. He was born on February 12, 1931, in Craig County, a son of the late Ott Mason Crawford and Hattie Bell Vest Crawford. Mr. Crawford was retired from Beatrice Foods in Lexington, and was a member of New Monmouth Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Estelle Swisher Crawford; one son, Roy C. Crawford of Fairfield; four daughters, Linda M. Knick of Lexington, Patsy A. Henderson of Waynesboro, Wanda S. Ramsey of Lexington and Norma J. Housman of Waynesboro; two brothers, Clyde C. Crawford and Charles W. Crawford of Lexington; one sister, Cathaline C. Kesler of Lexington; 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by a brother, James M. Crawford. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, 1996, in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, with the Rev. Charles R. Russell officiating. FREEMAN, E. Sidney, (``Sid""), 62, of Rich Creek, died Saturday, September 28, 1996, in a Radford hospital. Born on October 26, 1933, in Pearisburg, he was the son of Katherine B. Freeman of Narrows and the late Henry Dale Freeman. Mr. Freeman was a retired employee of American Electric Power Company, with 35 years of service; was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran, having attained the rank of Sergeant, and was a member of Rich Creek Lions Club. In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Betty Francis Freeman; sister, Betty Ruth Freeman of Narrows; a special nephew, Chris Kidd and his wife, Mary Lynn, and their daughter, Mary Francis Kidd, all of Raleigh, N.C.; mother-in-law, Eunice Francis of Peterstown, W.Va.; sister-in-law, Bonnie Patterson of Cary, N.C., and brother-in-law, Thomas Francis and his wife, Libby, of Peterstown. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, 1996, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, with the Rev. Alan Wilder officiating. HARLESS, Daniel Abbott, 62, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, September 28, 1996 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was born in Craig County on July 3, 1934 to the late David Kent and Cora Duncan Harless. Surviving are his wife, Pauline S. Harless; two sons and daughter-in-law, Doug K. and Angie Harless, Christiansburg and Paul D Harless, Blacksburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie H. and David Mooty; a granddaughter, Christy Mae Mooty, all of Botetourt; two grandsons, Brandon Lee Harless and Daniel Kent Harless, both of Christiansburg; a sister and brother-in-law, Alene and John Harvey, Rich Creek; a niece, Bonnie Lucas and husband, Jerry; and a nephew, David Harvey and wife, Donna. MOODY, Hallie Vaden, 95, of Pulaski, died Saturday, September 28, 1996, at Friendship Manor Health Care Center in Roanoke. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pulaski, where she was a member of the Adult Choir for many years. She was a retired teacher in the Pulaski County School System and formerly was employed by the University of Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Von W. Moody Sr.; a son, Von W. Moody Jr.; brothers, Leonard Vaden, William Vaden and Fred Vaden, and sisters, Edith Hughes and Ruth Patteson. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, William J. and Linda M. Moody of Roanoke; a daughter-in-law, Sue C. Moody of Pulaski; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brother and sister-in-law, James E. and Frances Vaden of Christiansburg; a sister, Bessie V. STUMP, Noah Nelson, 88, of 1116 Front Street, Eden, N.C., died Sunday, September 29, 1996, in Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C. His former residence was with the late Willie and Claudine Mills. He was born in Floyd, Va. He is survived by his guardians, Ben and Glenda Lipford of Eden; a niece, Cathy Grogan of Eden; a nephew, Gordon Mills of Stoneville, N.C.; four great-nieces, Lisa Williams and Ginger Carter of Eden, and Onji Jones and Jessica Mills of Stoneville; five great-nephews, Ben Lipford Jr., Bill Lipford, J. THOMAS, Hampton William, 66, of Peakwood Drive, S.W., Roanoke, died Saturday, September 28, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. A local attorney, he practiced law for nearly 40 years, and had served on Roanoke City Council for a period of 13 years. He was a graduate of R oanoke College and the University of Virginia Law School. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he had taught the Business Men's Bible Class. Mr. Thomas served during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Marine Corps. Surviving are his wife, Lou Ferguson Thomas; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Mary Thomas of McLean; a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Blake Dingler of Vinton, and a brother, Lynwood Thomas of Roanoke. Funeral services will be at 12 noon Tuesday, October 1, 1996, from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. WIKSTROM, Donald Eugene, 71, of Vinton, died Friday, September 27, 1996, at his home. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Westview Cemetery in Blacksburg. There will be no visitation. The Richardson-Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg is handling the arrangements.

WINES, Stephen Vaughn, 52, of Natural Bridge, died Saturday, September 28, 1996, in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Born on August 25, 1944, in Lexington, he was a son of Katie Ogden Wines Altizer and the late Paul Wines. He was a truck driver for Fitzgerald Lumber and Log Company. Surviving with his mother and stepfather, Arnold Altizer of Natural Bridge, are two sons, Jeff B. Wines of Natural Bridge and Jason E. Wines of Buena Vista; a granddaughter, Kassie Wines; a brother, Ronnie Wines of Natural Bridge; a sister, Joan Reynolds of Richmond, and special friends, Connie Coleman and Mark Braford. The funeral service will be Tuesday, October 1, 1996, at 11 a.m., at Falling Springs Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. H. Middleton Raynal officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Lomax Funeral Home in Buena Vista.
