It's time for some spooky art
It may be a little early to carve the pumpkin or stock up on candy, but Halloween is only a few weeks away. It's certainly not too soon to think about entering NewsFun's annual Halloween art contest.
In years past, our readers have submitted drawings of horrendously haunted houses, grisly ghouls and shocking scenes from parties.
This year, you can submit a picture of any Halloween scene you want. You might draw a picture of a pumpkin patch, a witch dancing with her broom or a pair of trick-or-treaters ready to hit the candy trail. Use your imagination and make sure the idea is your own.
The entries, which will be judged on originality and form, will be divided into age groups: kindergarten-first grade; second-third grade; fourth-fifth grade; and sixth-eighth grade.
NewsFun will throw a party for the class of the winner in each age group. Plus, the winning drawings will be published in the Oct. 28 edition of NewsFun.
All you have to do is:
Submit a color drawing of a Halloween scene on plain white paper.
Include your name, grade, school, school telephone number, home telephone number and address on the back of your entry.
Mail your entry to NewsFun's Halloween Art Contest, The Roanoke Times, P.O. Box 2491, Roanoke, Va. 24010-2491.
Entries must be received by midnight, Oct. 21. Only one entry per person.
