This year's Crop Walk has a new location and changes to its format that organizers hope will make this year's event the most successful yet.
Instead of occurring at Radford University's Dedmon Center and in downtown Radford, the walk on Oct. 13 will be at Bisset Park, which offers plenty of room and easier organization, said organizer Polly Jackson.
This year's route will be six miles instead of 6.2 miles.
The walk, sponsored by the Radford/Fairlawn Ministerial Association, is a fund-raising event that provides money for local and worldwide relief groups. Twenty-five percent of the money raised will stay in the area, going to groups such as the Women's Resource Center, the Radford Food Pantry and Radford/Fairlawn Daily Bread. The rest of the money will be distributed by Church World Service, a relief group of 31 Protestant and Orthodox denominations, for family health, food production, water resource development and vocational training.
Last year 150 participants raised almost $5,000. Individuals, families, groups and organizations are welcome, Jackson said. Prizes will be awarded to the biggest fund-raiser and oldest participant.
Sponsorship envelopes are available at churches and other organizations. Pledge money is due by Nov. 15.
Registration is at 1:30 p.m., and the walk begins at 2 p.m.
