NAMES ON CAMPUS

Sara Melton-Sumner, formerly of Dublin, received a doctorate from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville during the summer. She completed the requirements for a Ph.D. in English literature. Melton-Sumner has a master's degree from Radford University. She now is an English instructor at UTK and a computer laboratory coordinator at Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville.

Melton-Sumner is the daughter of James and Juanita Melton of Dublin. She graduated from Pulaski County High School in 1983. She is married to David Sumner, formerly of Pulaski. They live Maryville, Tenn.

Misti Williams of Dublin participated in a 12-week research training program at the University of Florida Whitney Laboratory, an institute for marine biomedical research and biotechnology. Williams is a senior majoring in biology at Bard College. She was one of 10 outstanding students selected nationwide for the 1996 Undergraduate Research Training Program.

Williams focused on the biology of crustaceans at the lab. At the end of the project, she presented her findings to the laboratory's academic community.

Dawn Loving of Shawsville is winner of the 1996 Rev. George Ducker Memorial Scholarship Award. The award is sponsored by the New River Community Action agency. Loving was selected based on her outstanding scholarship, extracurricular and community service achievements.

Loving is a 1996 graduate of Shawsville High School. She attends Radford University where she is majoring in pre-law. She is the daughter of Don and Louise Loving.

April Rogers, a graduate of Blacksburg High School, is a recipient of a Minority Incentive Scholarship from East Tennessee University. The award is for the 1996-97 school year and is given to first-time freshmen or transfer students.

Jutta Green, an associate professor of business management at New River Community College, has been awarded a Chancellor's Fellowship from the Virginia Community College System. The award helps students further their educational studies. Green is at the dissertation stage of her doctorate in community college education at Virginia Tech.
