Pulaski's Main Street will be lined with food, entertainment and vendors of many kinds for the 19th annual Count Pulaski Day Festival starting with opening ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
The event will also mark the Pulaski County Courthouse's 100th birthday, which will be observed with elaborate cakes contributed by civic organizations, churches and government agencies. The courthouse celebration will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon, with free cake and punch for all after the ceremony.
"We have over 40 vendors scheduled for the event," said Pulaski Economic Development Director Barry Matherly, whose office coordinated Count Pulaski Day this year. He said many town departments will be holding open houses. "Citizens will get a chance to go around and see what some of our town departments are like."
Morning entertainment includes the Confederate Cloggers, New River Community College Twirlers and Old Pros from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and Virginia Tech Folk Dancers, Old Pros, Held Over, and Don and the Deltones from 12 noon to 4 p.m.
All-day children's activities include storytelling, clown and magic shows, face-painting, chalk graffiti and rock painting.
Tours of the courthouse and the town's Train Station building are set from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The town and county of Pulaski were named for Count Casimir Pulaski of Poland, who died fighting for the American colonies during the Revolutionary War.
