NEIGHBORHOOD NAMES EAST

LAUREN COOK, daughter of Tina Cook of Roanoke, recently participated in the Virginia Future Miss Pageant. Cook, a seventh-grader at Hidden Valley Junior High School, won two awards: the 12-year-old achievement award recognizing the contestant with the highest score who was not a finalist; and the above and beyond award recognizing her thoughtfulness.

THREE ROANOKE-AREA ARTISTS recently placed in Roanoke College's Olin Galleries' Fourth Biennial Juried Exhibition. Page Chichester of Roanoke won the $200 third prize. Lucy Treado of Fincastle won $75 for second place in the amateur division. Ann Hale of Roanoke won a purchase award. Her work was bought by the gallery and will be added to the school's permanent display.

WESTERN VIRGINIA FOUNDATION OF THE ARTS AND SCIENCES has announced changes in its board of directors. Jenny Taubman has been elected to serve a three-year term on the board. New officers were also elected: Bittle W. Porterfield III, chairman; R. Daniel Carson Jr., vice-chairman; William S. Hubard, treasurer; James C. Sears, president and general manager; Wanda L. DiMarco, secretary; and George W. Logan, emeritus director.
