A trailer fire that claimed a Montgomery County man's life Monday has been deemed accidental, according to the Blacksburg Fire Department.
Fire Chief Keith Bolte said Thursday the blaze on Mount Zion Road in the Toms Creek area west of Blacksburg was apparently started by "a discarded cigarette on an enclosed side porch" of the trailer.
Ronald L. Cromer, 52, was dead when rescue workers found him in the den of his home. He died of smoke inhalation, investigators said.
The fire was under control within about 15 minutes after the 4:30 p.m. call. Damage to the trailer was estimated at $15,000, Bolte said.
