DALTON, Elwin Paul, Jr., 78, of Pulaski, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 1996. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday at Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski.

DeANGELO, Rachael Harriette Wingfield, of Apache Junction, Ariz., died Monday, September 30, 1996. She was born December 24, 1908 in Franklin County, daughter of the late Tazewell T. and Mary Motley Wingfield. She was the last surviving member of her family. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Dr. Marshall Wingfield, Rev. Richard Wingfield, Willie Roy Wingfield, William Wingfield, and Stuart Wingfield; and six sisters, Nannie W. Eggleston, Lucy W. Craig, Elsie W. Lavender, Ada W. Heflin, Mary W. Fontaine, and Lee W. Noyes. She is survived by her husband, Benedict R. DeAngelo of Apache Junction; and several nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg and completed graduate work at Columbia University, Pratt Institute, and the University of Pennsylvania. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, Association of Childhood Education International, Bishop Museum Association, Honolulu Academy of Arts, Hawaii Opera Theatre, Honolulu Symphony Society, Arts Council of Hawaii, and the Hawaiian Governor's Task Force for Children. During her career, she served as Supervisor of School Libraries in Yonkers, N.Y., Executive Secretary of American Association of School Librarians, Professor of Library Education, Queen's College University, City of New York, Professor, Graduate School of Library Science, Drex el University, Philadelphia, Pa., and Professor of Library Science from the Graduate School of Library Science of the University of Hawaii. Among the many honors bestowed on her were the Award for Distinguished Teaching from Drexel University, recognition from the Pennsylvania State Department of Public Education for her contributions to the advancement of education, the Mary Washington Distinguished Alumnus Award, recognition for outstanding service to the promotion and progress of school libraries from the American Association of School Libraries, and was listed in the World Who's Who of Women. Graveside services will be conducted by Rev. Berlin Hanks at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, at the Wingfield Family Cemetery in Snow Creek. ESTEP, William Garnett, (``Bill''), of Orange Park, Fla., formerly of Rural Retreat, died Thursday, October 3, 1996, in Jacksonville, Fla. Mr. Estep was preceded in death by a son, Robert Kent Estep. Mr. Estep retired from the United States Navy with 20 years of service. He was employed as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Marion before moving to Orange Park, Fla. He was a member of the Ridgewood Baptist Church in Orange Park. He is survived by his wife, Carol S. Estep of Orange Park, Fla.; one daughter, Tina Estep Palmer of Marion; three sons, William Lynn Estep of Dayton, Ohio, Terry Bart Estep of Knoxville, Tenn., and Rodney Shawn Estep of Meadowview; one sister, Jeanette Edmondson of King, N.C.; two brothers, Charles D. Estep of Vinton, and Curtis L. Estep of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Monday, October 7, at 11 a.m. at Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat with Rev. Mark Totten officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Joyce Blevins, P.O. Box 905, Marion, Va. 24354. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. FERGUSON, Beatrice O'Dell, 83, of Salem passed away Thursday, October 3, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. Ferguson, Sr. and son Lawrence E. Ferguson, Jr. She was survived by her grandchildren, Douglas E. Ferguson of Salem and Kimberly F. Migliarese of Roanoke; sisters, Annie C. Gibson of Elliston; Vivian C. Loyd of Roanoke; Bessie C. Hollins of Hopewell; brother, W. M. O'Dell of Salem; great grandchildren Maria, Gre gory, Christopher Migliarese, Daniel and Kelly Ferguson, daughter-in-law, Patricia D. Ferguson of Salem. LOYD, Syble N., 69 of Roanoke died Thursday, October 3, 1996 at her home. Surviving are her husband, Henry T. Loyd, Jr.; daughter, Marlene L. Slusher; four sons, Henry T. Loyd, III and wife Kathy, Marvin Loyd and wife Evelyn, Mike Loyd and wife Susan, Harry Loyd; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters; one brother and sister-in-law, Louise Kingery. LYNCH, Tressie Altice, 83, of Rocky Mount, died Thursday, October 3, 1996 at the home of her daughter. She w as the last surviving member of the John Daniel and Narcissus Altice family and was preceded in death by her husband, Reggie D. Lynch. She was a loving mother to Norma Jean and Bobby McGhee and Sandy and Stephen Flora, all of Rocky Mount, Glen and Anne Lynch, Wirtz, David and Rosemary Lynch, Rocky Mount; and a loving grandmother to Kathy Scott, Pana and Buck Anderson, Blake and Cherie Lynch, Scott Lynch, Brad Lynch, Erin Lynch, Emilee, Megan and Olivia Flora; and a loving great-grandmother to Mandy Scott, Jessica Blankenship, Missi Scott, Casey Blankenship and Kalin Lynch. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Arthur Beam officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. PADGETT, Louise Mullins, 72 of Vinton died Wednesday, October 2, 1996. She is survived by her husband, Douglas A. Padgett; son and daughter-in-law, Roy D. and Margie Bohon, Roanoke; grandchildren, Gregory and Letitia Bohon; sisters, Ethel Shepard, Evelyn Scott, and Frances Shepard all of Roanoke, Ruby Price, Houston, Texas. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Lotz Vinton Chapel by Dr. William L. Ross with burial in Mountain View Cemetery. PORTERFIELD, Foaestnia Frances Gearheart, 79, of Chilhowie, died Thursday, October 3, 1996, at the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie. She was preceded in death by her husband, B.O. Porterfield. She was a member of the Cleghorn Valley Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Donna P. Griffith of Williamsburg. A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Frida y at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Blevins officiating. Friends may visit with the family following the service. REED, Dulcie King, of Roanoke, died Thursday, October 3, 1996. She was the widow of Carl James Reed and was retired from the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Salem. She was a member of New Life Temple. Surviving is one sister, Nancy K. Shell of Salem; and a number of nieces and nephews. RICHARDSON, Darrell Lewis, 19 of Roanoke County died Wednesday, October 2, 1996. Darrell was a graduate of Cave Spring High School, Class of 1995, was a student at Virginia Western Community College and worked at Ye Olde English Inn. He was preceded in death by his father, Dave Phillip (``Pete"") Richardson and his grandfathers, Lewis H. King and David (``Rat"") Richardson. Surviving are his mother and step father, Patsy King and Roger Ingle; his brother, Dave P. Richardson, Jr. and his finance Susan Elkins, all of Roanoke County; his step sister, Ashley Ingle, Roanoke; his grandmothers, Lois King, Catherine Webb and her husband Joe, all of Roanoke; his great-grandmother, Rosebud Wiseman, Roanoke; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. His special friends Mozelle and Jim Graham, Bob and Cheryl Larkins, all of Roanoke. SAWYERS, Edgar Joseph, 49, of Christiansburg, died Wednesday, October 2, 1996, in Montgomery Regional Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Geraldine Fisher Sawyers; three children, Eddie Sawyers, Melissa Vaught, Frankie Sawyers, all of Christiansburg; sister, Shirley Snider, Blacksburg; brothers, Howard Sawyers, Shawsville, Frank Sawyers, Bobby Sawyers, both of Christiansburg, Kenny Sawyers, Jerry Sawyers, Nick Sawyers, all of Georgia; nine grandchildren. TUCKER, Elizabeth W., 92, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 1996. A native of Beckwith, Fayette County, W.Va., she was edu cated in the public schools of Charleston, W.Va. and later attended Mary Baldwin College. She was active with First Presbyterian Church in Charleston and after 1951 joined First Presbyterian Church in Roanoke. Prior to retirement in 1969, she worked for the Roanoke Public Library. Mrs. Tucker was predeceased by her husband, Dorr M. Tucker Sr., and is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas W. Tucker and Phyllis G. Tucker of Richmond and Dorr M. Tucker Jr. and JoAnn O. Tucker of Roanoke; and granddaughters, Louise Porterfield Tucker, Alexandria, Mary Scott Tucker, Richmond, Adelia Warner Tucker, Pasadena, Calif., and Tracy Jean Tucker, Roanoke. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 1996, at Evergreen Burial Park with the Rev. Phillip West and Rev. Richard Horner officiating. TURMAN, Janelda H., 52, of Stuart, died Wednesday, October 2, 1996. Funeral Saturday, 1 p.m., Moody Funeral Home Chapel, Stuart.

TURNER, Ann Porterfield, 62, of 1537 Oakwood Street, Bedford, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 1996, at a local nursing home. She was born July 28, 1934 in Giles County, a daughter of the late James Burke Porterfield and Ruth Dowdy Porterfield of Waynesboro, who survives. She was a school teacher and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pembroke. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Douglas Lee Turner; two sons, SFC John Douglas Turner, Fort Jackson (Columbia), S.C., Kevin Hamilton Turner, Bedford; a sister, Jean Ingram, Waynesboro; a granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Turner. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 4, 1996 at 2 p.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, by Elder Lane Carter. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family requests that those wishing to make memorials consider the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford.
