The Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department's Station 2 on Prices Fork Road across from Hethwood invites the public to its annual open house from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The first 500 children will receive fire hats, and Sparky the dog and Smokey the Bear will be at the event. Leon Neon from American Electric Power Co. will demonstrate electrical safety hazards at 3 p.m. The U.S. Forest Service and the state Department of Emergency Services will demonstrate equipment and answer questions, and the Virginia Tech Safety Office will display its Hazardous Materials trailer.
