A Bedford County woman was sentenced Friday to a year in prison for having sex with her teen-age foster son.
The woman, a 32-year-old farm worker who lives in Forest, pleaded guilty to three felony counts of statutory rape. Her name is being withheld to protect the boy's identity.
Bedford Circuit Judge William Sweeney sentenced the woman to three years in prison, with two years suspended on each count. She will serve her sentences concurrently.
According to Lt. John McCane of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office, social services workers discovered the woman had an ongoing sexual relationship with the boy. The boy had been living with her for several months.
The boy is not from Bedford County.
Prospective foster parents go through an approval process that includes a criminal background check.
