WADE GETS PROMOTION AT NS CORP.

ANTHONY C. WADE has been promoted to director of domestic metallurgical coal at Norfolk Southern Corp. He previously was manager of coal marketing.

Wade joined Norfolk and Western Railway, predecessor of Norfolk Southern, in 1977 as a merchandise management trainee. He has had extensive experience in coal transportation, having worked in the utility, industrial, metallurgical, coal combustion by-products, cogeneration, coke and iron ore markets in Cleveland and Roanoke.

Wade has been a corporate quality facilitator at Norfolk Southern and chairman of the company's United Way campaign. He is on the boards of Downtown Roanoke Inc. and the Harrison Museum of African American Culture.

ARCHITECT AND ENGINEERS

PHILLIP A. MARTIN has joined Balzer and Associates Inc., a planning, architectural, engineering and surveying firm with offices in Roanoke and Richmond, as a project manager. He formerly worked for Lumsden Associates as a project manager. Martin is a licensed land surveyor in Virginia and West Virginia and is an engineer in training.

ADVERTISING

SCOTT SITTLER has joined the Robert Claiborne Agency Inc. as an account executive. He will be responsible for new business development and account management. Sittler comes to the Roanoke advertising, marketing and public relations firm from Cincinnati, where he has an industrial distribution and marketing background.

BANKING

ROBERT R. FRANTZ has been promoted to vice president at Signet Bank. He is the market area manager of Signet's private banking division in Roanoke, responsible for managing customer relationships and business development. Frantz joined the bank in 1990 as a relationship manager in the small business leasing division before transferring to the private banking division in 1996.

STEVEN C. SIMMONS has joined Wytheville-based Premier Bank as assistant vice president. He will be manager of Premier's Christiansburg office. Simmons brings to the position 15 years of experience in real estate and consumer lending, most recently with First Union National Bank of Virginia.

CONSTRUCTION

The Roanoke Valley Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction has elected officers and directors for 1996-1997: VICKI CROMER, John T. Morgan Roofing Sheet Metal Co. Inc., president; SHERRY TUNSTALL, J&S Masonry, vice president; PAT WHITLOCK, Breakell Inc., treasurer; TRACY HARDING, Thor Inc., recording secretary; and PAT DOHERTY, American Industrial Movers, corresponding secretary. New directors are

DIANE HOLLINS, Commonwealth Door & Hardware; and KYLE SHOCKLY, Thor Inc. RITA CORBITT, Blue Stone Block, is past president of the chapter.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

ANDREW J. POLLARD has joined the Roanoke Valley Economic Development Partnership as marketing representative and will be responsible for prospect development. Pollard formerly was a publisher's representative with John Wiley & Sons Inc., where he received the outstanding sales performance award in 1995.

ENVIRONMENT

DAN SLAGLE has been hired by Rocky Mount-based Environmental Options Inc. as a technical sales representative.

HEALTH CARE

RICHIE ALBA, administrator of The Berkshire Health Care Center in Vinton, has been re-elected vice chairman of the board of directors of the Virginia Health Care Association, a professional and educational organization which represents long-term care facilities.

GLORIA RICHARDSON-GRAY has joined Nashville, Tenn.-based Hemophilia Health Services as director of managed care. Richardson-Gray, a former national accounts manager with Universal Self Care Inc., will continue to live in Roanoke in her new position. HHS was founded in 1990 to provide pharmaceuticals, supplies and assistance to people living with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders.

LAW

N. REID BROUGHTON has joined the Roanoke law firm of Flippin, Densmore, Morse, Rutherford & Jessee as an associate. Broughton practices in the areas of medical malpractice defense and general litigation with an emphasis in appellate work. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar Association.

MANUFACTURING

JEFFREY F. KIES has been appointed corporate controller of Tultex Corp. in Martins-ville. Before joining Tultex, Kies was financial manager of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in Winston-Salem, N.C.

MORTGAGE BANKING

KIMBERLY C. RADFORD has joined the mortgage origination and marketing team of First National Mortgage Corp.'s Roanoke branch. She comes to the company with 10 years of marketing and sales experience, most recently with Member One Federal Credit Union, where she managed the marketing and public relations department for eight years. CAROL H. CRAIGHEAD has joined the Roanoke branch as a mortgage loan originator. She was most recently a sales associate with Coldwell Banker Lambe-Young Realtors in Kernersville, N.C. FNMC is a subsidiary of First Maryland Bancorp based in Baltimore, Md.
