State park tours

AUSTINVILLE - Van tours of New River Trail State Park for seniors are being offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and and Oct. 19. The cost is $25, which includes a boxed lunch. Reservations can be made by calling 699-6778.

North County program

The Hollins Branch of the Roanoke County Public Library will host ``North County: Shining Past and Brilliant Future'' on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in the library's meeting room.

The program will explore the history of North Roanoke County, as well as plans for the next century, including the Williamson Road/Hollins Village Project. The speakers will be Deedie Kagey and Linda Sims.

Sierra Club meeting

The Roanoke River Group of the Sierra Club will hold its next meeting Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Science Museum of Western Virginia.

Nancy Ross, of the National Forest Service, and Blaine Phillips, attorney and forest specialist for the Southern Environmental Law Center, will review the newly published ``Southern Appalachian Assessment.''
