REPRESSED-MEMORY LECTURE

Dr. Julie Lipovsky, associate professor of psychology at The Citadel and coordinator for its Community Clinical Counseling Program, will speak on repressed memories this evening at 8:15 at Emory & Henry College. Admission is free.

The lecture will focus on the debate on the validity of repressed and recovered memories of traumatic childhood experiences. Proponents say such experiences are so overwhelming that the child disassociates all memory of them. Critics say zealous therapists use questionable methods leading clients to believe they were abused when they were not.

Lipovsky says case reports are plentiful on both sides and there is scientific evidence to support both arguments.
