Thirty-eight of the some 200 employees at the Long Airdox Co. plant in Pulaski have been laid off, as of the end of September.
But the layoffs are described by the company as short term, with recalls planned when orders pick up again. Nobody could be reached Monday at the plant who would estimate how long the layoffs would be.
The company, a division of the Marmon Group in Chicago, makes conveyor belt systems and underground equipment for the mining industry.
A slowdown in orders required that production be slowed to avoid adding to inventories at the Pulaski plant, and that led to the temporary layoffs.
