FCS MOVES SMART EVENT BACK

A schedule change at Franklin County Speedway affects the running of a field of Southern Modified Auto Racing Teams at the track in Callaway.

The 150-lap SMART feature has been moved from Oct.12 to Oct.19 to accommodate scheduling conflicts.

``Several teams competing at FCS on a regular basis had commitments to other events'' on the 12th, promoter Whitey Taylor said.

In the interest of having competitive fields in the other divisions, SMART officials allowed the scheduling change.

With two events remaining, Gary Myers of Walnut Cove, N.C., holds a 10-point lead over Jay Foley of Stuart and Frank Fleming of Mount Airy, N.C.

In other racing:

* Show cars instead of race cars will encircle Martinsville Speedway on Oct.25-26 for the Patrick-Henry Autumn Auto Show and Auto Parts Vendor Flea Market.

The show is expected to be even bigger than last year, when nearly 400 cars, trucks and motorcycles were entered. Gates will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. both days, and judging will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

For information, call Tom Inman at (540) 694-3800 or Greg Millington at (540) 638-8821. Inquiries can be sent to Autumn Auto Show, P.O. Box 562, Stuart, VA, 24171.
