IN SCHOOL SOUTH

BECKY MUSHKO, drama and creative writing teacher at William Ruffner Middle School, recently won first prize in the adult division of the 1996 Sherwood Anderson Short Story Competition with her story, "Rest in Peace."

JEREMY BALDWIN and GRAHAM FIELD, seniors at William Fleming High School, and KATHRYN ANDREWS and YARON RACHLIN, seniors at Patrick Henry High School, have qualified as National Merit Scholar semifinalists. One-half of 1 percent of graduating seniors achieve this distinction. The winners of the Merit scholarships will be announced in April and May.

ROANOKE PUBLIC SCHOOLS TRANSPORTATION OFFICIALS recently announced the winners of the School Bus Roadeo: Bonnie Ratcliffe, first; Karen Schoonover, second; and Tammy Smith, third.
