Wellness seminar
``How to Eliminate Sickness,'' a seminar by George Malkmus, will be presented this evening at 6:30 p.m. at Calvary Memorial Church, 2226 Colonial Ave., Roanoke.
Malkmus, a Baptist preacher for more than 30 years and founder of Hallelujah Acres and Back to the Garden ministries, will deliver a message of health through natural foods from a Biblical perspective.
Malkmus combines his personal testimonial of recovery from colon cancer with his research into nutrition and Biblical teachings.

Exhibit reception
A reception for the Currier Collection of American Art will be hosted today by the Docent Guild of the Art Museum of Western Virginia.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will include a Docent-led tour of the American masterpieces in the collection, on view at the museum until Sunday. The collection of paintings, furniture, glass and silver span three centuries of American art and include works by John Singleton Copley, John Singer Sargent, Thomas Cole and Winslow Homer.
The reception will begin in the Bridge Gallery at 4:30 p.m. and can be joined until 6 p.m.

Stewardship education
``Mountain, Rocks and the River,'' a natural resource stewardship education program will be presented at Claytor Lake State Park on Saturday from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
The program will include an illustrated discussion of the geologic history of rock formations, soils and landscapes with emphasis on their relations to water quality at Claytor Lake.
The slide show will be followed by a guided science tour along the New River Cliffs and in the karst terrain at the park.
There is no charge for the program. Participants should be at the park headquarters by 2 p.m. Hiking shoes are recommended.

Sierra Club meeting
The Roanoke River Group of the Sierra Club will hold its next meeting Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Science Museum of Western Virginia.
Nancy Ross, of the National Forest Service, and Blaine Phillips, attorney and forest specialist for the Southern Environmental Law Center, will review the newly published ``Southern Appalachian Assessment.''
