MARGARET SANDERS, FRANCES EADES and NATALIE RUBLE have won awards from the Family Individual Talent and Arts Program of Parents Without Partners.
Sanders won for her watercolor, "Rose In A Vase;" Eades for a Christmas wreath; and Ruble for a children's short story, "Bonita Comes Back."
TOTAL ACTION AGAINST POVERTY recently announced the names of its new board members and officers: Edwin R. Feinour, chairman; Stephen A. Musslewhite, vice chairman; Ted Edlich, president; William Skeen, treasurer; Elizabeth Bowles, secretary; Monty Plymale, vice president long range planning and administration; Lawrence Hamlar, vice president economic development; and Charles D. Fox, vice president legal affairs.
BILLY DeBARRY of Roanoke was recently named District Deputy of the Year by the Virginia State Council of the Knights of Columbus. DeBarry, the New Council development director for Virginia State Council, was honored for his work in organizing new Knights of Columbus councils in Lexington, Farmville and South Boston.
PROJECT DISCOVERY recently announced the names of the new members of its board of directors: Richard Poindexter, Onzlee Ware, Hope Cupit and James P. Ashton.
THE 1996 LYNCHBURG AREA JURIED PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW recently honored several Roanoke participants: Rebecca Graham Talbot, R.R. Donnelley Printing Company award; Gregory Banks, Advertising Design Award; Martin Church, Ellen Turpin Munger, and Lucian Lubinski; gift certificates from Photo USA.
The show will be on display at the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center through Oct. 12, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
THE ROANOKE VALLEY COMMUNITY BAND recently elected new officers: Wilbur Grant, director; Judy Hagadorn, president; Robert Leftwich, vice president; Nancy Akers, secretary; Jacque Kitts, treasurer; Myron White, business manager; and Susan Schlossberg and Richard Stilwell, board members.
THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF JUVENILE JUSTICE recently selected Judge Phillip Trumpeter, Sandy Alderson and the 23rd District Court Service Unit Substance Abuse Program to receive the Unique and Innovative Project award.
The 23rd District Court Service Unit educates and treats juveniles with substance abuse problems in Roanoke County.
FINCASTLE RESOLUTIONS CHAPTER SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION recently presented awards for outstanding service to the Roanoke Valley. Officer M. Lee Linkous, Roanoke County Police Department, and First Sergeant Larry E. McMahon, Virginia Department of State Police, received the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal. Fire Inspector Gary D. Huffman, Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department, Received the Fire Safety Commendation.
LITERACY VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA-ROANOKE VALLEY has elected a new board president, Walter P. Dungan. The new executive director is Nancy Chapin. New board members are Carole Agee, Jodi Miskowiec and Jeanne Scott.
