JOHN DAVID PIPER, son of Linda Kruse of Roanoke, is one of three students selected to receive the Lamar Corp. President's Scholarship. The scholarships are awarded to the children of Lamar employees based on academic achievement, financial need and an essay. Winners receive $1,000 per semester for up to five years.
Piper is a senior at George Mason University.
MARTIN DAVIS, son of Larry and Erin Davis of Roanoke, has been accepted into the honors program at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C. Students participating in the honors program receive merit scholarships of $7,500 or more per year.
Davis is a 1996 graduate of Northside High School.
AILEE R. STEELE, daughter of Gerald and Anna Steele of Roanoke, has been awarded a $2,000 annual merit scholarship to Radford University.
Steele plans to study theatre at Radford's College of Visual and Performing Arts.
KIM KATHLEEN WESTERMANN has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship from Gettysburg College.
Westermann is a 1996 graduate of Cave Spring High School.
ELIZABETH J. MAXWELL of Salem was recently nominated to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society at Williams College, Williamstown, Mass. where she is a biology and religion major.
