FEDEX ENTERS THE WORLD OF ELECTRONIC COMMERCE

Federal Express is joining the world of electronic commerce by offering computer software and expertise to help customers buy or sell products over the Internet.

The cargo airline said Wednesday that the new program, called BusinessLink, is being offered to selected FedEx customers with plans for national distribution early next year.

The program will allow FedEx customers to put catalogs on line for their customers to review. When an order is made, FedEx transmits it electronically to the merchant, assigns a tracking number and ships the item.

FedEx customers can also track shipments via the Internet.

Orders can be processed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

FedEx plans to supply the software and computer expertise at no cost, but customers will be charged transaction fees.
