A General Assembly committee studying the future of Virginia's environment will hold a public hearing at 7 tonight at Marion Senior High School in Smyth County.
The hearing is a first in a series to be held by the joint House-Senate committee, which is developing a long-term vision and plan for the protection and use of the state's natural resources.
The committee is particularly looking for comment on: the importance of natural resource industries, the needs for preservation and improvement of air and water quality, law enforcement, land use and development, open space and recreational needs, waste management, and state natural resources policy.
Other hearings will be held in Verona on Wednesday; in Roanoke Nov. 7, and in Norfolk Nov. 21.
