A sinkhole on southbound Interstate 81 south of Staunton could slow some of the 50,000 football fans expected for Virginia Tech's homecoming game this weekend against Temple, the Virginia Department of Transportation warns.
Repairs are under way on the hole in the shoulder of southbound I-81 near the Rockbridge-Augusta County line. The left southbound lane is closed for the repairs, reducing traffic to one lane.
VDOT is advising football fans to leave early and consider taking alternate routes. For more information on the location of work zones, call (800)367-ROAD.
