PEMBROKE LOOKS AHEAD NEXT WEEK

Pembroke residents are invited to a citizens forum at 7 p.m. Thursday to help town leaders rank priorities for decisions they will make in the near future.

Town Manager Randi Lemmon will review existing town projects, then participants will be divided into small grounds to discuss specific issues or needs they would like to see the town address. The meeting will close with a question-and-answer session. The forum is scheduled to last two hours, but town officials will stay until 10 p.m. to answer questions or take comments.

Some of the topics to be discussed include: the Pembroke sewer project; flooding and storm water management needs; the proposed Pembroke Commercial Center; police issues; and park improvements and recent changes in the town's recreation program.

Graduate students from Virginia Tech's Economic Development Assistance Center and staff from Giles County's Housing and Development Corp. will assist in conducting the workshop. Results will be tabulated and used by the town in developing plans and grant applications.

Any resident of Pembroke or the surrounding Eastern District of Giles county with an interest in the town and its programs may attend. The meeting will be held in the Pembroke Fire Department Activity Building.
