The lane of Interstate 81 in southern Augusta County that was closed this week because of a 35-foot sinkhole in the shoulder might reopen Saturday morning, the Virginia Department of Transportation said.
Crews hope to repair the sinkhole in time for the thousands of motorists expected to travel south on 81 to Saturday's Virginia Tech homecoming football game.
Things could change, so motorists should still allow extra travel time, highway officials said. The sinkhole is on the left southbound shoulder between mile markers 209 and 210.
