Kelley Geller scored 10 of her game-high 23 points in the third quarter to spark Blacksburg to a Blue Ridge District victory over Salem on the Spartans' home floor.
Casey Beamer added 17 points and Andrea Feret scored 14 points. The game was even, 26-26, at halftime but the Indians (5-10 overall, 2-6 Blue Ridge) came out of the locker room to outscore the Spartans 19-10 in the third quarter.
Sarah Palmer and Lindsey Carroll led the Spartans (8-6, 3-5) with 16 and 11 points, respectively.
Heritage 57, Liberty 54: The Pioneers got big games from Kim Moss and Annika Jordan as they pulled out a three-point Seminole District win over the Minnets in Bedford.
Liberty (3-13, 2-5) pulled to within three with 3.7 seconds left but could not steal the inbounds pass. It was led by Catherine Saunders and Danielle Wilson who scored 14 and 13 points, respectively. Jordan and Moss scored 18 and 17 points respectively and teammate Michelle Anderson added 13 points.
Martinsville 62, Laurel Park 46: Martinsville remained undefeated in Piedmont District play with a 62-46 victory over Laurel Park Thursday. The Bulldogs (10-4 overall, 4-0 Piedmont) had four players score in double figures, led by Monica Johnson and Tekisha Mitchell's 16 points.
Johnson collected a game-high seven rebounds and Mitchell added seven assists. Erica Brandon hit for 14 and Tiffany Watkins scored 10 in the victory. Brandy Martin tossed in 15 for Laurel Park (8-6, 2-2).
Martinsville jumped out to a 14-5 first quarter lead, with Mitchell connecting on a pair of three-point baskets, while holding Laurel Park to just two field goals.
Brookville 49, Staunton River 43: Crystal English scored 15 points, but it wasn't enough as the Bees held off the Golden Eagles in a Seminole District matchup in Lynchburg.
Brookville (9-5, 6-1) got 21 points and four 3-pointers from Lindsey Ferguson. Courtney Jones added 13 points.
Staunton River fell to 6-6, 5-2.
Northside 43, Christiansburg 32: The Vikings survived a sloppy game by both teams as they defeated the Demons in a tightly contested Blue Ridge District game in Christiansburg.
The fourth quarter was decisive in this district battle. Northside (6-2 district, 11-3 overall) went to the free-throw line as many times in the fourth quarter as Christiansburg (2-6 district, 7-7 overall) did the entire game. The Demons were 10-for-12 for the game while Northside was 16-for-31. Crystal Barrett and Samantha Webb led the Vikings with eight points. Lisa Dalton led the Demons with 14 points and teammate Stewart Milton added 10 points.
Patrick County 62, Magna Vista 60: Holly Weber scored eight of her 14 points in the first quarter as the Cougars (13-2, 3-1) held on to an early lead for a Piedmont District victory over the Warriors (6-7, 1-3) in Stuart.
Anitra Huff added six of her 10 points in the first quarter as the Cougars jumped out to a 21-10 advantage. However, they were only able to hit one field goal in the second quarter as the Warriors battled back. Alison Brammer contributed 11 points.
Moranda Wade led the Warriors with her game-high 28 points.
James River 57, Highland 31: Three Knights scored in double figures as James River took a Pioneer District victory in Monterey.
Amy Sprinkle and Julie Firebaugh each had 12 for the Knights and Nakia Burrell put in 11. James River outscored Highland in every quarter.
Tammy Shifflett and Jen Jolin had double-doubles for the Rams (3-5, 0-3). Shifflett had 17 points and 13 rebounds and Jolin, a 6-1 center, had 14 rebounds and 13 blocks.
Grayson County 60, Bland 33: Lindsey Carico scored a game-high 24 points as the Blue Devils picked up an easy Mountain Empire District victory over the Rockets in Independence.
Carico also pulled down 16 rebounds. Mandy Smith contributed 14 points. The Blue Devils (5-10, 4-3) were able to hold the Rockets to single-digit scoring in three quarters with full-court pressure.
The Rockets (0-15, 0-6) did not have a double-figure scorer.
Alleghany 66, Rockbridge County 51: The Mountaineers outscored the Wildcats by 13 in the third quarter to pull away for a Blue Ridge District victory in Lexington.
Natasha Chapman had a team-high 17 points and April Cook added 12 as Alleghany picked up its intensity after halftime.
Kate Ides led Rockbridge County with a game-high 18 points.
The Wildcats fell to 0-12 overall, 0-8 in the district.
Galax 56, Carroll County 44: The Maroon Tide outscored the Cavaliers by 11 points in the second quarter and cruised to the non-district win in Galax.
Galax (9-5) garnered 18 steals on the evening with Tiffany Williams leading the way with six. Williams also finished with 15 points. Teammate Catherine Cockerham added 14 points. Carroll County (3-11) was led by Angie Farmer's 16 points while teammate Chelsie Stoneman added 12.
Covington 61, Bath County 55: Joann Helton obviously has recovered from her stomach ache.
Limited to just a few minutes Tuesday night against Craig County, the Cougars' point guard scored a game-high 36 points and led her team to a Pioneer District victory in Hot Springs.
Helton, last season's district player of the year, made 15 of 18 free throws, 12 in the decisive fourth quarter.
Bath County led 40-35 going into the final quarter, but couldn't keep the Cougars (8-4 overall, 4-0 district) off the line.
Katie Hardbarger led the Chargers with 18 points and grabbed 19 rebounds. Suzanna Shanks added 12.
Bath County fell to 2-7 overall, 1-3 in the district.
Radford 63, Giles 41: The Bobcats pulled away from the Spartans on the strength of a strong shooting night to win the Three Rivers District game in Pearisburg.
Radford (9-6, 2-2) led by only two at the half but pulled away with good shooting. Charlee Taylor was 6-for-9 from the line in the fourth quarter and finished with a game high 25 points. Teammate Jenny Greco scored eight of her 13 points in the fourth quarter. Giles (5-9, 0-4) was led by Lori Talbert's 13 points and Kristen White's 12 points.
Parry McCluer 60, Craig County 26: The Rockets were 9-of-38 from the field as the Fighting Blues pulled away late in New Castle.
Lindsey Coleman scored a game-high 30 points (14 in the fourth quarter) in the Pioneer District matchup.
Jody Harden led Craig County (1-13, 1-2) with 11 points.
Narrows 68, Rocky Gap 32: Suzanne Webb scored 14 of her game-high 25 points in the first half as the Green Wave coasted to a victory on the road over the Eagles to remain undefeated in the Mountain Empire District.
Tough man-to-man defense early helped the Green Wave (12-3, 7-0) jump out to a 31-11 halftime lead. They held the Eagles to two points in the first quarter. Tara Collins added 14 points.
The Eagles (6-9, 2-5) were led by Jamie Johnston, who scored 10 points.
