ADCOCK, Eunice B., 99, of Roanoke and Durham, N.C., passed away Friday, October 11, 1996. She was the mother of Faye A. Dennis of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 14, 1996, in Durham, N.C.

BARE, Mae Dixon, 89, of Lexington, died Friday, October 11, 1996. Arrangements by Harrison Funeral Home.

BROOKS, Enzer Edward, 83, of 101 Hunter Street, Waynesboro, died at his home Wednesday evening, October 9, 1996, surrounded by his lov ing and caring family. Born in Bluefield, W.Va., and raised in the Trigg area of Giles County, he was a son of the late Robert Nathan and Videa Johnston Brooks. He was retired from employment with the City of Waynesboro, and was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie May Williams Brooks. Surviving are his daughter, Katherine Brooks of Waynesboro; three sons, Henry Brooks of Pueblo, Colo., and Danny Brooks and Paul Brooks of Waynesboro; two brothers, James C. Brooks of Salem and Marvin Brooks of Bland; one sister, Billie Sanford of Boyington Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 14, 1996, in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke. Burial will be in the Mount Lebanon Church cemetery in Hoges Chapel near Pembroke. The family will receive friends at Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow Street, Pembroke, from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

CLARK, Irene Nicely, 77, of Iron Gate, died Thursday, October 10, 1996. Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday, Nicely Funeral Home Chapel, Clifton Forge.

CRAIGHEAD, Joseph Lee, 78, of Bedford, died Friday, October 11, 1996, in Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otey T. and Clyde Watson Craighead; and two brothers, Paul Craighead and Berkley Craighead. Mr. Craighead was a veteran of the European Theatre of World War II. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Bedford Baptist Church. Mr. Craighead retired as National Sales Manager of the Fertilizer Division of Pittsburgh Paint and Glass. Surviving are his wife, Edna W. Craighead; and a number of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Historic Avenel, P.O. Box 686, Bedford, Va. 24523, or to Bedford Baptist Church, 1516 Oakwood Street, Bedford, Va. 24523. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home by Dr. David L. Henderson. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home.

EAST, John Lawson, 83, of Galax, passed away Thursday, October 10, 1996, at his residence. Mr. East was born in Halifax on January 3, 1913 to Julian L. East and Jannie Lawson East. He is survived by his wife, Carroll Jackson East; two daughters, Janey East Parrish of Galax, and Mary Elizabeth Cartwell of Sarasota, Fla.; two sons, John Lawson East Jr. of Somerset, Calif., and William J. East of Buchanan; two si sters, Eliza Jones of Fort Collins, Colo., and Kathryn Leadbetter of Hopewell. Eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. A graveside service for Mr. East will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Monta Vista Memory Gardens with Dr. James DeBoe officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home

HARLOW, Willie Angus, (``Bill""), 73, of Roanoke, died Thursday, October 10, 1996. He was a retired carman with Norfolk & Western Railway, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Harlow was a life member of the DAV. Surviving is his wife, Odessa Blankenship Harlow; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda H. and David Garcia, Hampton; a grandson, Andrew Garcia, also of Hampton; two brothers, Lewis Harlow and Linwood Harlow, both of Roanoke; sisters and brother-in-law, Lillie and Louis Sullivan, Ruckersville, Dora Terry, Elliston; a sister-in-law and husband, Marie and Jack Stilton, Daleville; brother-in-law, Fred Hartman; sister-in-law, Evelyn Harlow; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, R. B. Moore; many other close friends and relatives. Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel, 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 14, 1996. Pastor Fred Devan will officiate. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel after 3 p.m. Saturday.

HURT, James Carlton, departed this life on Thursday, October 10, 1996 at the Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 28, 1918 in Bedford to the late Walter Hurt and Bell A. Hurt. He joined the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church at an early age. He was married to the late Lucille Cunningham Hurt, and to this union three children were born. He was a retired employee of the Bedford County School System. Left to cherish his memory are two sons, James Lewis Hurt of Roanoke, and Earl Carlton Hurt of Bedford; one daughter, Shirley H. Moon of Bedford. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 13, 1996, at 1:30 p.m. at the New Zion Baptist Church, Bedford County. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The remains will lie in state today from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Bedford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements

JORDAN, Melvin Douglas, 58, of Montvale, died Monday, October 7, 1996 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Elizabeth Jordan, Wilmington, Dela. Mr. Jordan was retired from Chrysler Corporation. Alphonso (Meldorise) Jordan, Harrisonburg, Va., Michael (Vivian) Jordan, Bernard Jordan, both of Atlanta, Ga.; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. SAYLOR, Milton Brent, 40, of Blue Ridge, passed away Thursday, October 10, 1996. He was the owner of Blue Ridge Fire and Safety Company. Mr. Saylor is survived by his wife, Tammy L. THOMAS, Harry Gordon, 81, of Roanoke, died Thursday, October 10, 1996. Mr. Thomas was a member and deacon at Belmont Baptist Church and was retired from the VA Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Lillian Foster Thomas. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Townsend Thomas; a stepson and his wife, S. Lynn and Barbar a C. Townsend, Richmond; his stepgrandchildren, Tiffany Taliaferro and her husband, Foster, Kimberly Stansell and her husband, Scott, Sherry and Rhett Townsend; a stepgreat-grandson, Wyatt Taliaferro. UPDIKE, Wesley Kyle, of Bedford, 3-year-old son of Sheila Marie Updike of Roanoke and grandson of W. Calvin and Edley Rosazza Updike of Bedford, died Thursday, October 10, 1996, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital from injuries received when struck by a car. In addition to his mother and grandparents, he is survived by his twin sister, Kendall Nicole Updike, and his aunt, Denise Updike and her husband Jeff Freeland, all of Bedford, and many special relatives and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at the graveside at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 1996, in Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Lewis R. Garst and the Rev. Elmer Sellers officiating. WILLIAMS, Aylett Marie Milliner, 74, of Natural Bridge Station, died Thursday, October 10, 1996, at her home. Mrs. Williams was born June 5, 1922 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Robert T. Milliner and Bessie Branch Milliner. She was a member of the Natural Bridge Christian Fellowship, and retired from Burlington Industries. For the last 20 years she kept children in the community who all called her ``Nannie''. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Williams; and two brothers, Morris Milliner and Alvin Milliner. Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Eugene R. and Linda Milliner, Buena Vista, Dennis R. Williams, Natural Bridge Station; three daughters and one son-in-law, Edna M. Milliner, Richmond, Deborah W. Horne, Natural Bridge Station, Tammy W. and Vaughn Fogus, Lynchburg; one sister, Helen M. Moore, Glasgow; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 1996, in the Natural Bridge Christian Fellowship with the Rev. Barry Nall and the Rev. Conald Fogus officiating. Burial will follow in the Milliner Family Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, as per request of Mrs. Williams.
