JAMES RIVER ENDS COVINGTON DROUGHT

Brian LeFlore rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns as James River knocked off Covington 28-7 on Friday night in a Pioneer District game in Buchanan.

It was the Knights' first victory over the Cougars in football.

LeFlore scored on rushes of 13 and 18 yards and on a fumble recovery after a ball rolled into the Covington end zone from the 2-yard line. Josh Peck had three receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown. Senior linebacker Billy Joe Carter was in on 33 tackles for James River (3-3 overall, 2-0 district).

Grover Price rushed for 158 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries for the Cougars (0-6, 0-1), who made things difficult on themselves with five turnovers - four in the first half.

In other games Friday night:

Lord Botetourt 51, Alleghany 27: Wesley Cox had 27 carries for 212 yards and five touchdowns as the Cavaliers (5-1, 2-1) won a Blue Ridge District game in Low Moor.

Cox scored on runs of 1, 16, 18, 2 and 62 yards as Lord Botetourt rushed for 273 yards and accumulated 446 yards of total offense.

Alleghany (1-5, 0-3) got on the scoreboard first when Jamie Vail gathered in a 1-yard touchdown pass from Shannon Johnson, but it was all Cavaliers the rest of the way.

North Cross 14, Fishburne Military 6: Carter Lee rushed for 251 yards on a school-record 51 carries as the Raiders rallied for a Virginia Independent Conference victory in Waynesboro.

Fishburne (1-3, 0-2) led 6-0 before Lee, a 6-foot, 170-pound senior, scored on the first of two 6-yard touchdown runs.

Lee, who also played the whole way on defense, had all but three North Cross rushing attempts.

Fishburne drove to the Raiders' 24-yard line before North Cross defensive end Jason Ward recovered a fumble with 1:40 left. The Raiders (3-2, 1-1) were able to contain Kelston Byers, who scored Fishburne's first touchdown on a 35-yard run but later left the game with an ankle injury.

Bath County 40, Craig County 6: The Chargers amassed 369 yards of total offense, all on the ground, en route to a Pioneer District rout of the Rockets in Hot Springs.

Bath County (4-2, 1-1) held Craig County (0-6, 0-1) to 42 yards of total offense.

Three Chargers running backs - Brian Cauley, Anthony Pusey and Brandon Woodard - scored a pair of touchdowns apiece. Pusey carried 13 times for 124 yards and Woodard gained 114 yards on nine rushes.

Rockets back Jarvis Pauley accounted for 36 of his team's yards.

Pulaski County 49, Franklin County 14: Coach Joel Hicks picked up the 250th victory of his career as the Cougars (6-1, 1-0) rode a strong rushing attack to a Roanoke Valley District victory over the Eagles (2-5, 0-2) in Rocky Mount.

``It feels great,'' Hick said of his milestone victory. ``But it feels like every other win. The coaches and players knew this one would be 250, so they worked a little harder.''

Craig Hodge had 131 yards rushing and three touchdowns, including a 41-yard scamper up the right sideline with 4:50 remaining in the first half, for Pulaski County.
