ETS FILLS EXECUTIVE POSITIONS

ED MARTI has joined ETS Analytical Services in Roanoke as vice president of sales and marketing. Marti comes to ETS from North Carolina where he was vice president-environmental division at Triangle Laboratories in Research Triangle Park. He has been in the laboratory industry for more than 12 years, working in management, sales and marketing positions.

CHRIS SOUTHWORTH has been appointed corporate manager of client services for ETSAS. He has held various positions since joining the company in 1985.

ETS Analytical Services is a subsidiary of ETS International Inc., a Roanoke-based technology-based company providing environmental and construction products and services.

ACCOUNTING

MARC D. HIRSHORN has joined the certified public accounting firm of McLeod & Co. Hirshorn was with an accounting firm in Miami before coming to Roanoke. He will be working in the accounting and tax compliance areas of the practice.

BUILDING SUPPLIES

CHAD BROWN has been hired by 84 Lumber Co.'s Pearisburg store where he will be a manager trainee, focusing on the daily operations of the lumber and building supply retailer.

ENGINEERS

The Roanoke branch of the American Society of Engineers has elected officers for 1996-97: JOHN SPYHALSKI of Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern Inc., president; MIKE CERCIO of PSI, vice president; RUSSELL McDANIEL of Norfolk Southern Corp., secretary; and FRANK MacCONOCHIE of Froehling & Robertson Inc., treasurer. MIKE BISCOTTI of HSMM is past president of the Roanoke engineers' group.

HEALTH CARE

DR. JAMES S. REINHARD, medical director at Catawba Hospital, also has been named facility director at the psychiatric hospital operated by the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services. He will continue in his position as medical director. Reinhard, who came from New Hampshire in 1994 to assume the medical director position at Catawba, also has been an assistant professor of clinical psychiatric medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

INSURANCE

ROBIN CHALKLEY has been named director, marketing services, at Shenandoah Life Insurance Co. Chalkley comes to Shenandoah Life from the Packett Group advertising agency where he was a senior copywriter. LEANNE SCHULTZ has been named director, consumer market development. Shultz joined the company from New York Life Insurance Co. in Tampa, Fla. She previously worked for Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield in Roanoke.

MANUFACTURING

STEVE W. PILGRIM has joined Sam Moore Furniture Industries in Bedford as vice president of sales and marketing. Pilgrim worked at Sam Moore from 1984 to 1987, then worked in the juvenile furniture industry, most recently as director of international sales and marketing for Gerry Baby Products in Denver, before returning to the Bedford company.

The Virginia Manufacturers Association recently elected officers and directors for 1977. Directors elected from Southwestern Virginia are: JUDI A. BARNES, Barnes & Co., Collinsville; R. DANIEL CARSON JR., American Electric Power Co., Roanoke; WINSTON E. FAUST, Hoechst Celanese Corp., Narrows; PRABHAT K. JAIN, Virginia Transformer Corp., Roanoke; THOMAS W. MASON, Virginia Apparel Corp., Rocky Mount; DAVID M. NEWKIRK, Westvaco Corp., Covington; and IRMA H. SMART, Smart Machine Technologies Inc., Martinsville.

UTILITIES

BOB HEIL has been promoted to compensation and benefits manager for the American Electric Power Co. human resources delivery center in Roanoke, which is responsible for employees in Virginia, Tennessee, West Virginia and Kentucky. Heil had been human resources supervisor in the AEP office in Huntington, W.Va., before coming to Roanoke.
