An early morning shooting in Northwest Roanoke wounded two teen-agers, leaving one in critical condition with a head wound.
Roanoke police responded about 1:20 a.m. Saturday to a shooting in the 400 block of Gilmer Avenue and found a sport-utility vehicle with a broken passenger window.
One of the victims, a 17-year-old from Roanoke County whose name is being withheld because of his age, was found in the vehicle with a large-caliber bullet wound in his head, police said. He is in critical condition at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The other victim, a 17-year-old whose name also is being withheld, was shot in the left foot. He also was being treated at Roanoke Memorial on Saturday.
Earlier in the night, the injured teens and two friends had driven to an apartment complex on Hunt Avenue Northwest to visit a female friend, police said.
While they were there, another male arrived to visit the same person, and an argument took place.
After leaving the apartment, the teens went to a home on Gilmer Avenue. As they left, a dark-colored vehicle approached. A male got out of its passenger's seat, fired about five rounds with a handgun, then got back into the vehicle, which drove off.
The shooting occurred outside the home of the victim who was shot in the foot. That teen's mother and stepfather, whose names are not being used because of their son's age, said they heard the gunshots. The stepfather said he has heard shots in the neighborhood before, but not so close.
As of Saturday night, police had not located the assailant or the vehicle in which he rode.
