* Slurpees register on the thermometer at a chilly 28 degrees.

* People from Detroit drink more Slurpees than people from any other city.

* Outside the United States, Slurpees are also very popular in Australia, Taiwan and Brazil.

* The Slurpee got its name from the sound it makes when you slurp it through a straw.

* Today, there are more than 30 Slurpee flavors, but there have been hundreds since 1966. Some of the more interesting flavors: Red Eye, Fulla-Bulla, Blue Blunder, Miami Ice, The Glob, Sour Power, Cinnabom and The Lemonator.

* The Slurpee radio ads were once so popular that people called the radio stations to request them.

* Slurpee collector cups have featured monsters, baseball players, rock 'n' roll groups, endangered species and comic book characters. Some cups had false bottoms with surprises hidden in them.
