Book sale at Tech library
BLACKSBURG - Friends of the University Libraries at Virginia Tech will sell duplicate and unneeded books near the entrance to Newman Library from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.
About 2,500 books will be available, including fiction and nonfiction, old Virginia Tech yearbooks and magazines. Hardcover books will sell for $2, softcover books for $1 and magazines for 50 cents.

Humane society drive is Saturday
CHRISTIANSBURG - The Humane Society of Montgomery County will collect cash donations, cat and dog food, cat litter and cleaning supplies at area stores Saturday.
Volunteers will take donations from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Food Lion and Kroger stores in Christiansburg and Blacksburg, Goody's, Harris Teeter, Kmart and Wal-Mart.
The society will use the cash donations for spay/neuter procedures to help control the New River Valley's pet overpopulation problem. The society is a private, nonprofit organization that operates a no-kill shelter in Christiansburg for homeless pets. For more information, call 382-1166.
Poet to talk at Tech Monday
BLACKSBURG - Mady Schutzman, a poet, scholar and theater artist, will talk on "Community Dialog and Social Change" at 7 p.m. Monday in Hillcrest Hall's Living Room at Virginia Tech.
Schutzman is a nationally recognized artist and scholar whose focus is diversity and feminist performance theory and practice. Her talk is free and open to the public.
